after 8 amazing years of trading pops & i have come to the very difficult decision to close the doors of bigmoose coffee co today.
4-5 frederick st is where the bigmoose dream to leave the world better than we found it began. we have met thousands of incredible people, employed some of life’s most fantastic humans and it has been one amazing journey.
the hospitality business is a tough one & after the quietest christmas we have ever had followed by a quiet january and then having some issues with our roof which will require £25k of repairs we have concluded that sadly the time has come to make this decision.
our world has changed drastically in the last 8 years. my health has declined and i am awaiting a kidney transplant which is bringing it’s challenges.
i remember the day in my parent’s kitchen back in 2016 when dad said he had an idea and a few months later the journey to opening began. we spent over a year finding a premises and running a successful kickstarter campaign.
we’ve had some of the best most incredible highs but we’ve also had our fair share of lows. 6 break ins, a full demolition of the building opposite us causing months of disruption, a cost of living crisis and of course a global pandemic. we’ve learnt more in the last 8 years than we could have imagined.
we’ve seen some of the most wonderful human connection and support and as we write this with tears in our eyes we will never ever forget the kindness we have been shown.
but we feel that now is the time to finish this chapter. we always dreamed of creating a safe space that welcomes everyone and we have done that. we have had some life saving conversations in this coffee shop and without it we would never have started the charity and saved and changed many more lives.
you, our wonderful guests and supporters have made this last 8 year truly unforgettable.
it has been our honour to serve you, get to know you, listen to your stories and play even a tiny role in your world. thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in our vision.
