It's always nice to feature on this list!!

Whether it's a bustling city centre boozer or a beautiful country inn, a tiny craft ale pub no bigger than a sitting room or the perfect places to warm yourself in front of a cosy open log fire, we are truly spoilt for choice in Wales 👌🍻

WE’RE ON THE HUNT FOR THE BEST PUBS IN WALES 🍺

Episode one took us to The Gwaelod y Garth Inn, a cracking little pub at the foot of Garth Mountain, near Cardiff.

It was absolutely heaving when we arrived, but it still felt warm, friendly and full of character. Inside, it’s dark and moody, with exposed stone, old-looking floors and lots of little details that make it feel like a proper pub.

Outside, Llio was delighted with the hanging baskets. You can tell they’ve actually made an effort to make the whole place look lovely, which goes a long way with her 🌸

There’s a great choice of changing cask ales, craft b**r and local b**r, plus plenty of pub snacks. But the homemade pickled egg was the winner. You hardly see them behind a bar anymore, and Nicky was thrilled.

We didn’t eat this time, but so many people have told us the food is really good, so we’re very keen to return.

Apparently, you can have THREE meats with your Sunday roast, which is practically unheard of. I just hope there’s a Yorkshire pudding with every meat, because Yorkshire puddings should never be limited to beef. I will not be taking questions on this.

They’ll even wrap up your Sunday roast so you can walk up Garth Mountain and eat it at the top. Such a lovely idea.

It’s extremely dog-friendly too, and they even make a Sunday dinner for dogs. Derek will be joining us next time once he hears about that.

A cracking pub, lovely service and definitely somewhere we want to revisit for food.

Could this be one of the best pubs in Wales?

Follow our new series as we travel around Wales looking for brilliant Welsh pubs, and tell us which one we should visit next.

Save this one for your next walk up the Garth 🍺

WE’VE BEEN NOMINATED!

We’re absolutely thrilled to have been nominated for The Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Pubs 2026!

To even be in the running alongside some of the best pubs in the country is pretty special for our little pub in Gwaelod y Garth.

But… we need your help!
The Good Food Guide is asking customers to nominate the pubs they think deserve a place in the Top 100, so if you’ve enjoyed a meal with us, sunk a pint or two at the bar, spent a sunny afternoon in the b**r garden, or simply think The GyG deserves a spot on the list, we’d be hugely grateful for your nomination.
It only takes a minute, and every nomination really does help.
Please like and share this post for your chance to win a £50 gift voucher to spend with us.
Nominate The Gwaelod y Garth Inn here:

Voting ends this Thursday.

Thank you, as always, to everyone who supports us. Being nominated in the first place has already put a massive smile on our faces.

Now let’s see if we can get The GyG into the Top 100!
