🇳🇮NICARAGUA - New Coffee Drop 🇳🇮

☕ Tasting Notes: A well balanced cup. Sweet and chocolatey at the base, brightened acidity.
🧼 Process: Washed
🌱 Altitude: ~1200 masl.

“Coffee was introduced to Nicaragua in the late-1700s by missionaries and colonists. By the late 19th century, coffee became the country’s main export. Although a long history of political unrest, civil war and recent natural disasters have challenged the country, Nicaragua continues to produce coffee as its main crop for trade.

In Nicaragua, coffee grading is based primarily on elevation and occasionally on screen size and cup quality. The country uses terms that indicate the altitude at which the coffee was grown - higher elevations typically produce denser beans with more complex flavor profiles because there the cherry ripens more slowly in cooler temperatures.

SHG, or Strictly High Grown, indicates an altitude of aver 1,200 meters above sea level.

HG, or High Grown, indicates elevations between 900 and 1,200 masl.

EP (European Preparation) specifies that the green beans are all hand sorted to remove any defective beans and foreign material.” [1]

BURUNDI WOMEN! 🇧🇮

Turihamwe is a women-led initiative, built and owned by a group of seven entrepreneurial coffee farmers who pooled their savings, now involving more than 2000 smallholders in the area earned through quality premiums from JNP Coffee, to create Burundi’s first woman-owned wet mill.

When they began, there wasn’t even a road to the site. Undeterred, they built one themselves.

With support from JNP Coffee and their own investment group, these women turned a dream into a thriving business.

Since its founding in 2019, Turihamwe has grown from producing five micro-lots to 1,200 bags of coffee per year, all while maintaining a focus on quality and sustainability.

🇨🇷Now this is an EXCITING one! COSTA RICA Red Honey processed Microlot from a family farm!🇨🇷

☕ Tasting Notes: Cocoa with mellow fresh hibiscus and caramel flavors. Tart acidity and mild clean fruit-like sweetness.
📍 Origin: Costa Rica, Las Lajas Micromill
🧼 Process: Red Honey
🌱 Altitude: 1400-1600 masl.
🌾 Varietal: SL-28

- - - - - - - -

Microlots from Costa Rica are typically sourced from producers who have invested not only in growing their farms, but also in building and operating their own processing facilities, typically called “micromills.” Micromills typically yield fewer than 1,000 bags annually, and are often independently owned by a family or small group of producers.

Oscar and Francisca Chacón are third-generation coffee producers, but the coffee is more than just in their family heritage - it’s in their hearts and souls as well. The couple is committed to quality and innovation, and are among the very first farmers in Costa Rica to produce Honey and Natural process specialty coffee.

The Red Honey process is a specific process initially developed by Las Lajas.

Freshly harvested and sorted cherries are delivered to the mill and promptly depulped, leaving 100% of the mucilage (parchment) on the bean. After this, the coffee is transferred to a covered patio where it is turned several times a day until the drying process is complete. The color of the parchment is a direct result of the depth of coffee when dring.

New coffee drop! Papua New Guinea - Goroka Valley. 🇵🇬

THE CUP
☕ Tasting Notes: Clean with good body and medium acidity. Hints of herbal & floral and caramel.
📍 Origin: Papua New Guinea, Goroka Valley
🧼 Process: Washed
🌱 Altitude: 1500-1800 masl.
🌾 Varietal: Typica

From our supplier ⬇️

“Our coffee is sourced from the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, nestled deep within the valleys of the Goroka region. This area is characterised by small farm holders in remote villages, who produce 95% of the coffee. On average, each farmer cultivates approximately 0.7 hectares of land, contributing to a total production area of 1,435 hectares.

Due to the challenges of road access to nearby towns, farmers typically wash their coffee locally and then sell their parchment to village traders. From there, the coffee is transported to the dry mill for hulling, cleaning, grading, and packaging. Finally, it is shipped out from the capital of the Eastern Province, Lae, which serves as Papua New Guinea’s key port city.”
