It is with profound sadness to announce that our good friend and very longtime regular Gerry Keay has passed away. All of us at The Unicorn offer Gill our deepest sympathies and sincerest condolences at this time of sorrow.

On a personal note, I was forewarned about Gill and Gerry when I first took over The Unicorn in April 1997 as they were in charge of The CAMRA branch of Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay. I thought to myself “Oh! OK? And?” but once I met them in person the foreboding vanished and the start of a very long relationship with the branch commenced and the added bonus of friendship too.

Advice, criticism, and praise was always welcomed and adhered to, with Gerry’s somewhat - how does one describe this? – unique style of compliment! With Gerry’s wit, sense of humour and, dare I say, sarcasm, life was always taken in its stride and always resulted in a wry smile and on occasion laughter.

It was an immense pleasure to have known Gerry, and he will always be a part of The Unicorn. He will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace my friend.
