September in Cambridge is looking very good.

From Open Cambridge and rare-access college tours to new exhibitions, live music, food festivals, and autumn markets, there is plenty happening across the city this month.

We’ve picked out some of the events we’re most looking forward to, whether you’re planning a full day in Cambridge or just looking for an excuse to come into town.

On Friday 6 November, Market House and Cambridge Wine Merchants are bringing together five courses and six wines for a dinner that moves through some of the region’s most distinctive styles.

We’ll begin with Moscato d’Asti, then move through Gavi, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barolo and Barbaresco, before finishing with Brachetto d’Acqui.

Along the way: vitello tonnato, agnolotti del plin, brasato al Barolo, cheese, and bonet Piemontese.

The centrepiece is a 2019 Barolo from Azelia di Luigi Scavino, but this is really about seeing Piemonte as a whole: not just Nebbiolo, but the range of grapes, dishes and traditions that make the region so compelling.

Ten things worth leaving the house for in Cambridge this August.

Shakespeare in the college gardens until the 29th. Free outdoor cinema for four days straight. A luminarium you can walk inside on Jesus Green. Michael Ball at the Corn Exchange, and the whole city centre turning into street theatre over the bank holiday weekend.

We’re two minutes from most of it. Lunch from 12, dinner from 5 — which makes us the easy answer to “where shall we eat first?”
