The Engine House at Compton Park

The Engine House at Compton Park Compton Park nestles on the warm southern slopes of Kit Hill. If you are coming to Cornwall via A30 get to Launceston and head for the A388 to Callington.

Kit Hill once owned by Prince Charles, but given to the people to celebrate the birth of Prince William, Kit Hill is a 400 acre Country Park towering above the beautiful Cornish and Devon countryside to the height of 1000 foot, giving views of both the north and south coast of Cornwall and Devon from its summit. Compton Park is a six acre peaceful site affording panoramic views of both Cornwall an

d Devon, the views stretch from Plymouth and its Mew Stone in the east, way out to sea and the Eddystone lighthouse some twelve miles out to sea, along the Cornish coast to the high ground above Looe, all the way down to the white peaks of the Cornish clay tips and the Eden Project to the west, and then back along the eastern slopes of Bodmin Moor and all the way up to Davidstowe Moor and the North Cornish Coast. Compton Park closest village is Kelly Bray, a five minute walk away , which has a local pub and a laundrette. For larger shops Compton Park sits over the top of Callington, an ancient Cornish town with its mural project and pleasant town centre, providing everything that people require, food shops, hardware stores, banking and old Cornish pubs. Callington is a twelve minute walk from Compton Park

The site at Compton Park is a gently sloping grassed site, with access straight onto Kit Hill and its many beautiful walks and horse trails leading to the stunning Tamar Valley area of outstanding natural beauty (A,O,N,B) and its many attractions from National Trust stately homes to Old Cornish riverside ports and villages, and peaceful wooded walks. A little further is Plymouth a twenty minute drive, with its historic Barbican and all the major retailers one would expect to find. To the south a twenty five minute drive are the famous old fishing villages of Looe and Polperro, further down the coast is Fowey, a very old Cornish port and Polruan, just across the water, and now you are in Eden Project country. Location

Compton Park is a peaceful, simple and unspoilt site formerly the site of an old Cornish tin mine, with the old Cornish Steam Engine house now single storey, tastefully converted to provide showers, toilets, washing facilities and the Engine House Tea Rooms where hot home cooked meals are served

Compton Park is very easy to find, if you are coming to Cornwall through the Dartmoor National Park, then head for Tavistock, then the A390 for Callington, cross the Cornish - Devon border at Gunnislake and just before reaching Callington at the crossroad's of Fullaford road and Florence road turn right and up the hill of Florence road, half a mile Compton Park is on your right. From Plymouth / Saltash take the A388 towards Callington, you will be greeted by a roundabout on the outskirts of Callington, go straight across staying on the A388 heading for Launceston, straight through the traffic lights and along Launceston road for one mile brings you to Kelly Bray, turn right along Florence road, after half a mile Compton Park is on your left. Coming into Kelly Bray the village before Callington, take the third on your left along Florence Road and again Compton Park is half a mile on your left.
