The Welly Community Cafe with Bury EST Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from The Welly Community Cafe with Bury EST, Manchester Road Park, Bury.

From the beginning of April 2014, working in partnership with the Parks and Countryside Service, Bury Employment Support and Training (Bury EST) have taken over the management of the Manchester Road Park bowling facility. We will look to expand on current provision by providing not just the successful operation of the bowling facility, but looking to develop additional activities and opportunities

to improve the confidence, self esteem, health and independence of disabled and disadvantaged funded local residents; at the same time increase volunteering opportunities and develop community involvement for everyone using the park. The cafΓ© opened to the general public at the end of August and we are currently looking to up-skill our customers through qualifications and on the job training, to increase their independence and maximize their chances of meaningful employment. The success of the project to date has been so astonishing, that Bury EST offered employment to 3 customers, working predominately at the park, with the potential of affording more employment opportunities to local disabled and disadvantage customers as the project continues. The community cafΓ© is open Monday to Friday 10.00am – to 3.30pm Monday to Friday every week, so please spread the word that the cafΓ© is now open and please feel free to pop in and take a look around the facilities.

Yesterday morning we attended the opening of the Aspire and Achieve Hub. Two of our individuals, Aaron and Darren, worked alongside our support staff to welcome guests and serve the drinks and refreshments we provided to them. They both did incredibly well throughout πŸ‘πŸ»
It was also lovely to see our own planters we had built for them on display in their outdoor area 😊

Darren has now completed his work placement with Mencap. The placement couldn’t have gone better! Darren has enjoyed his time there that much, that he now doesn’t want it to end so has made the choice to be staying on there as a volunteer πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

We would like to say a huge thank you Mencap for this wonderful opportunity and supporting our individuals into the world of work.

Mencap are asking for donations at present so please bear them in mind when looking to support a local charity shop 😊
