This is not the post I want to to be making, but I don't know what else to try at the moment.
Broadstairs, where are you?
Since the Easter weekend, we have had such a considerable drop off in sales that it has actually cost us to be open most days. We are really, really struggling. To the point where I'm worried we might not make it through another month!
Small businesses have it really really hard at the moment, although I know that's true for everyone! In 2026 alone (and we're only in April), we've been hit with minimum wage increases (excellent for our hard-working staff!), inflation & shrinkflation with regards to stock, increase in minimum orders from our suppliers, increase in the cost of waste disposal due to rising fuel costs, and a demand for a pavement licence so that we can have tables and chairs outside. It doesn't seem like there's any improvements for small businesses on the horizon, but we've got so much love and passion for what we do, we don't want to give up! Not yet!

All our cakes are homemade with high-quality ingredients and love, we've got over 25 different blends of loose leaf teas to choose from, plenty of options for lunch including jacket potatoes, quiches, and sandwiches, better iced coffees than Costa (according to our staff at any rate), and damn good scones!
