Claymore was built and opened by Neil MacKinnon around 1962, alongside his sister Margaret.

Neil wanted something that wasn’t exactly popular on Skye at the time — staying open seven days a week, Sundays included.👩‍🍳🫡
The building’s changed more than a few times since then — different colours, different design, a fair bit of renovation — but if you look closely at the old photos, that same roofline is still there.

🫶Sixty-odd years, a few renovations and a lot of fish and chips later, we’re still here. Same name, same village, same sword in the logo.😇🔥

🥕Ask what today’s soup is, and you might get a different answer tomorrow. 👩‍🍳We rotate through a handful of vegetable-based ones — curried parsnip, sweet potato and chilli, carrot and coriander, tomato and pepper — always blended smooth, always made from whatever’s good that day.🥕🫑🌶️🥦🌽🥬🍆
We keep two on at once, so there’s a choice. Most versions are vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free too, though it’s worth asking on the day since the exact recipe changes.🍅🫛

✨Right at the front of the restaurant, before you even step inside: part terrace, part glass-roofed orangery, strung with fairy lights and flowers🌸 .It gets its moment of sun for a little while each day, and honestly, it’s one of our favourite corners of the whole place.
It’s also where you’ll end up if you catch us on a busy night. We’re walk-ins only, so if there’s a short wait for a table, we’ll hand you a buzzer and you can relax out here with a drink until your table’s ready.🍹🍻🥂

🥮There’s a reason panna cotta never goes out of style: the texture does all the talking.
Ours is made in-house👩🏻‍🍳, set just soft enough to wobble, then paired with a sharp mixed berry sauce and a scoop of sorbet for something cold against all that cream.🍓🫐🍨
Rich, sharp, cold — everything working against each other in exactly the right way.🤤

Ever wondered how many steps your server takes in one shift? Somewhere north of 10,000, easily. 😅
Now add three tables all needing “just” something at the exact same moment — ketchup here, one more diet coke there — and suddenly you’re juggling four different “justs” in your head at once.
🏝️A two-second pause for a sip of water starts to feel like a small holiday.🍹
But this is also the fun part — the buzz, the chaos, getting to laugh with table 4 while balancing four plates. A smile or a bit of patience from you on a busy night genuinely makes our day. 🤩
