Bristol, what a weekend!⁠

On Friday and Saturday we made our Bokman debut at Bristol Craft Beer Festival () and the welcome blew us away. ⁠

We brought back a few familiar dishes - the resident Bokman Port Hilly oysters with kimchi ice brine and our Gochu Twigim - alongside something new. Mekju, our Korean-style rice lager brewed in collaboration with . Seeing so many of you try it for the first time was so special.⁠

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us over the two days, and to for organising a brilliant event.⁠

While Bokman is taking a short break, we’d love to reintroduce our sister restaurant, Dongnae.⁠

Nestled on Chandos Road, Dongnae is the realisation of Kyu’s vision: a place dedicated to celebrating traditional Korean cuisine through the seasons, with a special emphasis on house-made fermentations.⁠

The menu can be enjoyed in two ways: our Hanjeongsik set menu, offering a carefully curated journey through the full Dongnae experience, or our à la carte selection, ideal for returning to your favourite dishes.⁠

Lunch: 12:00–2:30 pm⁠
Dinner: 5:00–11:00 pm⁠

As the warmer days roll in, we can't help but think about our legendary soft serve.⁠

Made with classic Jersey milk as the base, we topped it with seasonal flavours and fun creations inspired by the time of year. ⁠

A classic was our our honey butter chips soft serve. Our version of the eponymous Korean snack, the potato chips are made in house and drizzled in a sauce of honey butter and brown sugar. Duncan describes it as crunchy nut cornflakes but better.⁠

A Bokman legend: our Galbi stew 복만갈비찜.⁠

Slow-braised beef short rib in a sweet soy glaze, served with king oyster mushrooms and pepper. The rib is gently cooked in the stew until it becomes meltingly tender and falls off the bone.⁠

Pair it with steamed rice and a selection of banchan, this dish highlights deep umami flavours with a rich, comforting finish.⁠

Open Tuesday to Saturday on Chandos Road, Dongnae (동네) serves lunch and dinner inspired by Kyu’s upbringing in Seoul and our time living in Korea. Midweek, there is a good value set lunch alongside a shorter à la carte menu. For dinner and on Saturdays, you can enjoy the full à la carte of seasonal dishes, plus our special Hanjeongsik (한정식), a Korean banquet-style menu showcasing the best local and seasonal ingredients.

Throwback to a Bokman favourite: spicy braised tofu served with king oyster mushrooms and fresh choy sum.⁠

The tofu is fried until golden and crisp, then braised in a rich mushroom stock infused with red chillies, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil. Fried king oyster mushrooms are added, and everything left to simmer, soaking up deep, savoury umami flavours.⁠

While our doors are closed, we’re taking a moment to look back at some of Bokman’s classic dishes (just enough to make you miss them a little…).⁠

Our ###-spicy monkfish 아귀찜 was a firm favourite among Bokman diners.⁠
We gave this Korean classic a modern twist by swapping traditional sea squirts for locally sourced mussels, cooked with bean sprouts, chrysanthemum leaves, rice cakes, and a subtle pinch of curry powder.⁠
