💛 Last Night’s Open Mic 💛

A slightly quieter night than usual… but seeing as England were busy beating Croatia in the World Cup, I’m surprised anyone came to the open mic at all!

What we may have lacked in numbers, we more than made up for in atmosphere. It was another fantastic evening of music, with great performances, a supportive audience, and all the usual good vibes. ✨

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that the quieter nights often have their own kind of magic. Everyone leans in a little more, listens a little closer, and the whole thing feels more intimate.

The one thing I’d still love to see more of is women on the mic. We’re still a long way from that magical 50/50 split. Ladies, consider this your weekly invitation not to let the lads have all the fun 😉🎤

The night is always richer, more balanced, and more interesting when more voices are represented.

One of my favourite things about this night is the sense of community that’s grown around it.

Every week it’s a mix of familiar faces, brand new faces, seasoned performers, and people nervously getting up on stage for the very first time. And somehow it all works.

Whether you’ve been performing for 30 years or you’ve never touched a microphone before, you’ll be welcomed with the same warmth, encouragement, and support. That’s what this night is all about. 💛

The Golden Lion Open Mic is candle lit, friendly, proudly non-cliquey, and full of people who genuinely want to see each other do well.

Bring your songs, your poems, your stories, your covers, your weird ideas, your half-finished ideas… whatever you’ve got, there’s a place for it here.

And as always, we’d love to see more women on the mic. Ladies, consider this your weekly invitation not to let the lads have all the fun 😉

💛 Last Night’s Open Mic💛

There was a really good atmosphere in the room last night. One thing that’s been particularly nice recently is seeing new faces becoming familiar faces. It feels like we’re building a genuine community, with new regulars joining the established regulars week by week. ✨

The performances were fantastic, the audience were supportive, and the whole evening had that warm, welcoming feeling that makes the night what it is.

After 8 1/2 years of hosting this open mic, I never take it for granted. Every Wednesday I’m reminded how lucky we are to have so many talented, kind, and supportive people choosing to spend their evening together sharing music, poetry, stories, and laughter. For that, I’m genuinely grateful. 💛

The one thing I’d still love to see more of is women on the mic. We’re still a long way from that magical 50/50 split. Ladies, consider this your official invitation. The night is always richer, more balanced, and more interesting when more voices are represented. 😉

💛 Last Night’s Open Mic 💛

What an awesome night!

Great to see some familiar faces, meet some new ones, and watch another packed room full of brilliant performances. The list filled up FAST this week, but somehow we managed to get everybody on. ✨

A special shout out to the legend who volunteered to share their slot so everyone could have a turn. That kind of generosity is exactly what makes this night what it is. It’s never about competing with each other, it’s about lifting each other up. 💛

Every act brought something different to the room, and the audience were there for all of it. After all these years, it still blows me away how supportive people are of one another.

It was also great to see more women stepping up to the mic! We’re still a long way off that mythical 50/50 split, but we’re moving in the right direction. When it finally happens, we’ll celebrate accordingly…

I might even break my sobriety for one evening. (Probably not. But it’ll be close.) 😆

💛 Last Night’s Open Mic 💛

It was a hot and sweaty one last night 🥵 but the heat wave seemed to bring out the absolute best in people’s performances. Every act absolutely smashed it, and the audience were fully there to support every moment. ✨

One of those nights where the room just clicked.. great music, good people, loads of energy, and that lovely feeling that everyone’s in it together.

Only downside this week was there was just one female performer on the lineup. Come on ladies.. we know you’re out there! 💛
