Following on from the announcement last week that is due to close next month after 15 years, we want to publicly pay tribute to them and tell anyone who will listen how much it has meant to us to have them alongside us for all that time. The Social has been like a sibling to The Pipe. With no exaggeration it has felt like we were proper family. All our staff are friends with their staff, our lot would hang out there before work, they would come to us at the end of their shift.
Countless numbers of limes, gas cylinders, spirits, napkins, ice, and anything else you can think of have travelled between the two venues over the years, as we’ve always helped each other out. A constant flow of people, and stock, and positive supporting energy in and out of our front doors, it’s going to be pretty tough to not have them there any more. Many venues came and went in that space in the years before The Social was born. And then they opened and absolutely nailed it. Everything you would want from a friendly café and bar. They got it absolutely spot on. Hats off to Kris for conceiving it, and then to .clique45 and and the team for subsequently elevating it into the venue it became and has continued to be up to today. You guys absolutely smashed it, and we are going to miss you all incredibly.
In a constant sea of change both in the area immediately around us, and Bristol as a whole, there has been something comforting for people to be able to come to our bit of Cheltenham Road and know that both of us would reliably be there, consistently doing our thing for all these years.
We of course look forward to welcoming into the neighbourhood whoever takes the reins at the venue next, and affording them the same love and support we have given and received from The Social. But for now, we have 4 weeks to enjoy those breakfasts (and that steak sandwich🤤) and the company of the their crew
And remember, continue to support the amazing local independent venues in Bristol, they are the very lifeblood of what makes our city so brilliant. Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone…
The Social and all your crew – we salute you! T
