And just like that… it’s the FINAL DAY of Women in Translation Month! 📚🌍✨

And who better to round things off than our resident bookseller and a Woman in Translation herself, Kayla? 💁‍♀️📖

Kayla has picked out some of her favourite translated reads for you to add to your TBR. So if you’re looking for your next read, consider this your sign! 👀📚

And although Women in Translation Month may be coming to an end, our celebrations certainly aren’t. We’ll be continuing to champion and recommend brilliant women authors and translated fiction at the BookCellar all year round.

Because great books shouldn’t need a designated month. ✨

Which of Kayla’s picks are you adding to your TBR? Or have any suggestions of your own?👇

It was a wonderful evening spanning storytelling, poetry, book readings and music as the sun starts to set on summer.

🚀 It's Sci-Fi Sunday!

And this week, Pete's taking us a little deeper into the genre with Firefall by Peter Watts. 📚

This omnibus edition brings together the novels Blindsight and Echopraxia, and it's what Pete would call hard sci-fi.

But what does that actually mean? 🤔

Think science fiction that takes the science seriously: big, complex ideas rooted in scientific, technological and philosophical concepts. In other words... this might not be one for reading with too many glasses of wine... 🧠🍷😂

If you're ready to dive into alien encounters, consciousness, biology, philosophy and some seriously mind-bending ideas, Firefall should definitely be on your TBR.

Easy reading? Perhaps not. Absolutely fascinating? According to Pete... definitely. 🚀

Have you read Firefall, Blindsight or Echopraxia? Let us know what you thought in the comments! 👇

What’s better than a good book? 📚🍷

A good book with a great glass of wine, or two… we’re not judging. 😉

We’re open until 11:30pm tonight, with plenty of great books to browse, wine to sip, beers to enjoy and soft drinks for those keeping it sensible(ish).

After all, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere… and at The BookCellar, it’s always a good time for a book and a drink. 📖🍷

Come for the books. Stay for the wine. ✨

An incredible evening with Katie Baskerville 🏳️‍🌈🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 discussing her book Beyond Belief: A Defence of Gossip and the Women Who Do It with Joanna Nadin

We loved spending the evening learning about the power of whispered stories to why gossip has historically been judged so differently when women are the ones doing it. The perfect night of conversation, laughter, Sauvignon Blanc, and of course, a little bit of gossip!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a brilliant evening.

Signed copies of Beyond Belief are available in store!

As we approach the end of the month, we’re almost at the end of our Women in Translation posts! 📚🍷

To round off our celebrations, the BookCellar booksellers have selected their ultimate favourite translated book by a woman-identifying author & provided a review to encourage you to read them too!📖🖋️

What do you think of our choices? Did you manage to read any translated works by women this month? Let us know in the comments below. 😊

Baby book(-free?) clubs

We know that being a new parent can be hectic and often lonely.

As we move into autumn we are looking at sessions for book-loving new parents to meet and talk about their favourite topics(without the pressure of actually having to read a book) and enjoy a grown up drink in a baby-friendly space.

To help us get this right, please let us know what times would work best for you in the poll and give us any ideas for format and considerations in the comments.

We’re always a baby and child-friendly venue with baby changing, a range of titles for ages 0 to teen. Ask a bookseller for colouring sheets and recommendations.

P.S. Thank you to baby Lily for coordinating her outfit with the book for this post.

🚀 Did you think we'd forgotten it was Sci-Fi Sunday...?

Well... we almost did. 😅

We're a little later than usual today, but don't worry, Pete's here to save the day with another brilliant sci-fi recommendation. 📚

This week, he's talking about his love for The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz. A wildly imaginative look at the future, packed with big ideas, brilliant world-building and plenty to get you thinking.

So, apologies for keeping you waiting... but as far as we're concerned, it's still Sunday, and Pete has delivered. 😂🚀

Have you read The Terraformers? Let us know what you think, or tell us what sci-fi book Pete should tackle next! 👇

If it’s a little early for wine, our premium filter coffee is roasted by our friends in Bedminster and is also available as decaf.

Why filter? Everything we do at the BookCellar is designed to create a calm atmosphere for reading. Barista coffee is delicious, but it’s also loud and steamy.

Our owners Tom and Claire have been drinking Boona Boona’s Guatemala roast every day for over a decade, so it was the obvious choice when we opened the BookCellar.
