G’day Glampers and campers and lovers of the great OUTDOORS 🫵🏻🫶🏻🤗🎥
I thought I should introduce myself.
My name is David. Some people know me as Weedy from The Weedy Garden YouTube films.🇦🇺
I’m a photographer, a gardener, a filmmaker… and, for the moment, I’m living in a Lotus Belle tent in the middle of my food forest.
The house isn’t far away. But I wanted to move up here for a while because I wanted to get closer to the garden. I wanted to wake up with it, hear what happens at night, notice the changing light, the weather, the birds, the insects and all those little things you miss when you keep disappearing back inside.
And something else has started happening.
I’ve been a photographer for around 40 years, and the tools I’ve used to make pictures have changed enormously.
I started in the darkroom. Then came different cameras, lighting and flash. Then computers and Photoshop.
The photographs you’ll see me sharing here begin with my tent, my garden and my camera. I photograph the real thing, from real angles, in real light. Then sometimes I take that photograph somewhere else in my imagination, through a computer and enhance light, color - remove a garden hose in the wrong spot, or take two or three or more photos and create something new.
What would my tent look like in a monsoon from a photo I had from 30 years ago?
Under the Milky Way?
Deep in a forest?
Or with a kookaburra sitting on top while I lie in the morning sun drinking my coffee?
That’s what I want to explore here.
Not just tents.
Imagination. Photography. Nature. And this strange human desire to make a little home somewhere beautiful.
And I’d really like you to be part of it.
