We genuinely want you to cook from this book. The last thing we want is for your cookbook to spend its life sitting on a shelf looking beautiful but never getting used!

When we first opened the restaurant, we did it for Mum (you know the story). But our bigger purpose has always been to share what real Indian food is all about—especially the wonderful food of Gujarat.

Our hope is that by cooking Manju’s recipes at home, you’ll discover just how approachable, delicious, and rewarding authentic Indian cooking can be. And no, we’re not worried that you’ll stop coming to the restaurant! If anything, we think it will make you love the food even more.

If you run into trouble with a recipe, give us a call on 07400 620567 and we’ll arrange for one of our chefs to call you back.

A small favour though—please don’t call during restaurant service hours. When the kitchen is in full flow, we simply won’t be able to respond.

Sundays and Mondays are our days off, so we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Our cookbook has found homes all over the world. If you’re outside the UK, feel free to send us a WhatsApp message instead—it often makes things much easier.

A photoshoot with and Sophie for UK’s premiere upmarket supermarket chain.

An old ‘un but a good ‘un!

A few years ago, we were on holiday. Manju was in her mid 80’s I believe and her grandkids were quite tiny.
She asked them to get ready and took them to an Ibiza foam party.
They bopped away, people in their 20’s an 30’s were coming up to mum, dancing with her and taking photos.

Kinda sums her up really…

Bharela Ringar Ne Bateta Nu Shaak
(yes it’s a mouthful!)

Baby aubergine and potatoes are stuffed with roasted crushed peanuts, garam masala and various spices.
This is a dry curry so it’s served with Gujarati dal (Gujarati’s have dal like a spicy tangy soup), fresh Rotli (flatbread) and pickle.

Mango chundo has a sweet, sour and spicy taste.
It’s a traditional Gujarati pickle made with the sourness from raw mango, sweetness from sugar, flavoured with cardamom, red chili powder and spices.
Perfect with thepla (Gujarati flatbread), paratha, dal rice or even cheese boards.

Last night was an epic Thali night! The star dishes were definitely the pointed gourd and potato curry and the boondi ladoo.
Completely vegan thali!
Probably the last one for the year, but we can plan another after summer if you guys want.
