Last Friday's preparation for our food bank food parcels was very busy. We packed over two days, which needed 9 volunteers, and another 10 volunteers delivered the parcels. None of the Food Bank team are paid.

We receive no statutory funding for emergency food; we are reliant of individual donations of food and money, donations from Morrisons, the Sussex Gleaning Network, our own crowd-funding from local people, and from the Hungry at Home Emergency Food Network crowd funding. which is match funded by Brighton and Hove City Council, and lots of small emergency grants form small emergency charity funders.

We spend on average £770.00 a week from charitable funding to supplement what we get from FareShare to buy food, otherwise we wouldn't have enough food with an appropriate nutritional balance for a week to supply to the currently 171 people (and getting more by the week) in food poverty we deliver food to. If you have any spare money (and we appreciate many people haven't in this terrible health and economic crisis) please consider donating to ou crowd funding. Thank you very much. https://www.gofundme.com/f/vale-community-centre-food-bank-emergency-food-aid

WHAT YOU CAN DONATE! SEE LIST BELOW!

This week we will have to find the food for 92 households with 171 people (124 adults and 47 children). This is over a 600% increase in referrals since the start of the corona-virus emergency.

We have to buy huge amounts of extra food to fill these bags, in addition to the food we get from our paid subscription to FareShare (currently underwritten by ASDA), and the free food we get from Brighton and Hove Food Partnership, from funding from crowd-funding and Brighton and Hove City Council.

We spend about £1000 a week buying extra food, for which we have to continually fundraise. If you can help us in any way we would be most grateful. Here is a list of the food you could donate:

long-life bread
packets of cereal and porridge
packets of rice
packets of pasta
packets of noodles
jars of pasta sauce
tins of pulses
cans of fish or meat
tins of vegetables
tins of soup
tins of fruit
packets of tea
packets of biscuits
UHT milk
long-life fruit juice or squash
toilet rolls
bars of soap
dog food (tins or biscuits)
cat food (tins or biscuits)

(please note we can not accept chilled food due to Food Standards Agency guidelines for Food Banks with no refrigerated storage)

Please ring Sim (07774 644375) to arrange to drop of a donation at the Edge Community Centre, Pankhurst Avenue.

or you can donate money here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/vale-community-centre-food-bank-emergency-food-aid
