One Gardens Sustainability Fair - very quiet - set up the stall and headed to the Carnival -so much love and celebration/ solidarity of diversity there :)
Diversity = Resilience.
Seed legislation has destroyed our crop diversity over the past 100 years. Distinct, Uniform and Stable rules means we have lost so much genetic diversity.
We are locally adapting seed onsite, plant breeding, mixing it up ( crossbreeding) to produce Grexes and Landraces. Can't wait to see how the kale turns out!
Come up 25th July, Stanmer Organics Open Day, we have tours at 12 and 2pm -will talk more about it then x

Gutting news :( as we all eat this poor decision affects everyone of us :(

Community Supported Agriculture UK (CSA UK) is extremely disappointed that the Government’s 2026 Sustainable Farm Initiative excludes farmers and growers operating on fewer than three hectares of land.

For small CSA farms, already struggling in a hostile business environment, this announcement is a death knell when it could have been the start of a real push for food resilience in communities across the UK.

Suzy Russell, CSA Network co-ordinator, said: “The application of the three hectare limit is a huge blow to hundreds of our farmers and growers who are providing climate-friendly agroecological food, health and employment to communities across England.”

Small farms and horticulture enterprises like community supported agriculture schemes are the lifeblood of the Government's drive towards thriving rural communities, innovation in agriculture, and improvements in sustainability and resilience. They allow new entrants into farming, trial new methods, increase resilience and decrease reliance on chemical inputs.

“Our CSAs, with their short supply chains, offer a brilliant response to the desperate and well-reported need to address food supply issues and potential food shortages.” Suzy added.

Well what a Friday it was last week! After 6 months of clearing, digging, rearranging, repairing, installing, building and preparing we finally got our first Food 4 Lyfe CSA share delivery out 🎉

Many thanks to everyone who has been part of the journey to get here, especially Jools and Andy at Fork & Dig It :)

There are still a couple of places left if anyone wants to join.

The first photo in this sequence is Billy showing off the purple top milan turnips that went into last week's share. They look stunning and taste even better; raw with salad or roasted with garlic.
Click the arrow on the right of the photo to see the best chard leaves from last week. Just beautiful.
The next photo shows the broad beans being weighed up.
The final photo is what we think of mono-crop agri-chemical farming :)
