An Exciting weekend is fast looming in the spyglass. It is said that there is much entertainment to be had at the Ropemakers starting with the Mega Meat Draw which will take place at 6:00pm on Friday. There are £250 worth of high quality products for you to buy a ticket. All proceeds are donated to Bridport based The Living Tree Cancer Support Group.

Friday continues to be a treat with Jinder playing to delight you. Jinder is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is best known for his extensive catalogue of dark folk- and country-influenced solo work, including his 2019 Top 40 single, 'Keep Me in Your Heart', which features in the 2019 film Fisherman's Friends and has been successfully covered by many other artists. He is also known for his brief tenure as the frontman of the Mercurymen. Music starts at 8:30pm.

On Saturday we welcome Faith in Geometry. Faith in Geometry are a four-piece instrumental band from Bridport, Dorset, blending elements of electro, post-punk, psychedelia and alternative rock into expansive, genre-defying soundscapes. Since forming in 2022, the quartet of Andrea Crociani, Dingo Valaitis, Kathy Kelly and Andy Park, have built a growing catalogue of original music, including their 2024 debut EP, ‘Delete’. Starts at 8:30pm

WE cool down a bt on Sunday with the talented Jamie Parker playing for your delight at 4:00om. Dorset musician Jamie Parker has been playing live since his early teens. His solo acoustic sets feature a mix of classic songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, spanning a variety of genres. Expect well-known favourites.

This afternoon something very special is promised in the form of Michael Prewitt.
Some artists inherit a tradition. Others spend their careers trying to escape one. Michael Prewitt's career has been a prolonged experiment in discovering just how far afield one can go by digging down.

Prewitt grew up immersed in the sounds and stories of the Cumberland Mountain foothills of southeastern Kentucky. He first picked up the fiddle as a young child before discovering the mandolin at twelve, a moment that quietly shaped the course of his life. Drawn first to the restless creativity of musicians like David Grisman, John Hartford and Norman Blake, he later gravitated to the music of earlier innovators like Bill Monroe, J.D. Crowe, and the Stanley Brothers, realizing that the need to create within traditional boundaries was one that each of these artists navigated.

That philosophy has become the defining thread of Prewitt's career.

Over the past decade he has established himself as one of the most respected mandolinists of his generation, spending several years touring internationally with the Grammy-nominated, IBMA Award-winning Special Consensus. Along the way he earned two nominations for the IBMA Momentum Award for Instrumentalist of the Year, recognition of both his technical command and his increasingly distinctive musical voice.

But virtuosity has never been the destination.

As an artist, Prewitt has become increasingly interested in songwriting, not simply as a vehicle for performance, but as a way of exploring the complicated relationships between people, place, faith, memory, and the natural world. His songs often inhabit the space where literary fiction meets traditional mountain music. They ask large questions without pretending to answer them. His aural landscapes are populated by birds and rivers, lonely highways, family histories, forgotten towns, irreverent humor, and moments of quiet spiritual searching.

His writing reflects a lifelong love of literature every bit as much as American roots music. World literature, environmental writing, folklore, and Appalachian storytelling all find their way into his creative imagination. Prewitt finds in traditional bluegrass a deep well of melody and language that can be used for telling stories that still matter today.

His first two solo releases in 2024, The Peerless Mountain Sessions and Something He Can Handle, introduced audiences to both sides of his artistry. One showcased the spontaneity and interplay of traditional acoustic music; the other expanded his vision into a full-band statement that balanced instrumental prowess with increasingly confident songwriting.

Come down and be entertained this weekend at The Ropemakers with some very fine music indeed! But Friday evening starts with our weekly charity Meat Draw that we hold to raise funds for the local Bridport charity The Living Tree.
The music starts at 8:30pm with the remarkable Flamenco Thief. Craig Sutton, aka “The Flamenco Thief”, is an English instrumentalist who blends finger-style and percussive guitar techniques to produce a classic-contemporary Mediterranean sound with lashings of South-American substance. His music incorporates Spanish acoustic, Latin, rumba, and bossa nova
with hip-hop and electronica. With a career spanning 14 years, 4 albums, and numerous tours in Europe, Asia, and South America,
Saturday is Carnival night so we bring you something very special - Lady Winwoods Maggot who will play at 8:30pm - Saddle up your horses, folks, 'cause we're about to venture deep into the intriguing and uncharted world of Lady Winwoods Maggot. These musical renegades formed in 1993 and defy being pigeon-holed to a musical genre like rebels in a lawless territory. They draw inspiration from the anarchy found in punk right through to the melodic storytelling of country; Not to mention the mysterious allure of traditional foot stomping folk tunes.
With well over a million online streams, Lady Winwoods Maggot have managed to ensnare listeners from across the globe. They've left their mark at countless shows spanning the South of England and have even ventured as far as New Zealand.
Sunday brings a more mellow atmosphere with the brilliant Michael Prewitt at 4:00pm Hailing from the hills of East Kentucky, Michael Prewitt, known for his creative and hard-driving approach to the mandolin over the last few years with Grammy-nominated and IBMA award-winning bluegrass band Special Consensus, has journeyed all around the world and now come home, releasing a debut vocal album of original song-writing, titled Something He Can Handle.
On this album, which Bluegrass Today termed “a brilliant effort,” he showcases his fresh, inventive take on bluegrass song-writing. In his live shows, these original songs are paired with many detours onto the bluegrass back roads of forgotten B-sides, respectful covers, and old fiddle tunes, forming a unique blend of thoughtful lyricism and hot picking that has been enthusiastically received by audiences at dive bars, festivals, rock clubs, theatres, listening rooms, and breweries across the USA, Canada, and Europe.
