It’s certainly been an eventful day at The Astronomer!
This afternoon, a car left the road and came through into our garden, destroying two of our picnic benches in the process. Thankfully, no one was injured. The driver was attended to by paramedics and taken to hospital awake and alert, and we sincerely hope he is okay.
A huge thank you to the emergency services who attended so quickly, who, as luck would have it, are also our neighbours. It’s times like today that you really appreciate having such fantastic people close by.
We’d also like to thank the members of the public who helped and supported while everything was going on. Your help genuinely made a difference.
And finally, a massive thank you to our customers. Today was not business as usual. We had longer waits than normal, dirty glasses and tables that we simply couldn’t get to quickly enough, while the team were understandably distracted by what was happening outside. You were incredibly patient and understanding, and we really appreciate it.
We did have one or two reminders today that, apparently, dirty tables are more important than a car coming through the garden… But thankfully, the overwhelming majority of our customers showed exactly the patience and understanding we could have hoped for.
My team handled an incredibly unusual and stressful situation brilliantly, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.
The garden might look a little different for a while, but we’ll get it sorted.
