What shape is a coffee bean? Well... if you look at the beans in your grinder you'll notice they're not all exactly the same... I like to think each one is special in its own way, each having it's own character and story...
👀Take a look at the 3 beans in the photo:
🟢🟢The bean at the bottom has a flat side. This is the most common shape for Arabica coffee beans. Usually coffee beans grow in pairs inside a coffee cherry - two little beans with their flat side facing each other 🥰 cute right?!
🟢Now take a look at the bean on the right - it's rounder, no flat side. This is what we call a 'peaberry' - these beans grow alone in a coffee cherry - they are less common and they can roast differently because of the way they are formed - perhaps we could call them 'independent'😉
🟢🟢🟢The top-left bean has two flat sides and a round side - these beans grow in threes inside the coffee cherry! They are rare but you can sometimes see them in your bag of beans - I like to think of them as lucky beans - like a four-leaf clover🍀
👀Take a look at your beans this morning and see what you can find!
