Good morning.

The sun is shining although a bit chilly in the night. I believe it went down to 8c.

Had a mooch around the village show with Hope and met lots of people from the tearoom and of course dog owners, where our dogs go and introduce themselves to other dogs. Perhaps we should take a leaf out of their books. I dont mean sniff around people's butt's, but at least smile and acknowledge people. Owning a dog, you do talk more to passers by.

After grabbing a takeaway to eat at home, we walked back, leaving the noise, announcements, music and chatter behind us and rambled down the lane. It grew quieter, with the twitters of the birds, raising above the charm and excitement of the people and children back at the village. Their tweets and calls getting louder, but fitting into the waves of grass, swaying leaves and the slow moving clouds.

Hope, walking to heal, the odd time having a sniff at a previous occupant of grass, then carrying on, proud and determined to reach home.

I sat at home, ate my carribbean curried goat for lunch then sat a while, contemplating my next move for the day and which job would be next.

It had to be cutting the grass. My favourite job.

Out the mower came, for me to see the belt hanging off again. That's the second time in a day! So I took it into a more convenient place to put it back on.

Now if you read my posts, you will know how many times, my.mower breaks down. Yep, the left spindle had broken.

Not so long ago the right had broken, so I ordered a pair. So I did have a spare. On it went!

Time to put the blade on and it should be done!

Nope....in Carole fashion, the two spindles are different. One side has a 5 spoke spindle, the other a 6 spoke spindle. After googling that I had the correct spindles, the previous owner must have used the wrong spindle and blade, so here I had a new spindle ready to go but no blade to fit it. I had a choice, buy a new blade or a new spindle. Given apparently they turn in opposite directions, they do need to be different, so a new spindle has been ordered and I get to play in the long grass again!

I tell you, I try to get away from the memories of the rip off builder who stole our John deere mower, the one mower that was perfect (the mower) and never let me down, but each time one breaks down, it reminds me of what a lovely mower that was.

Financially, they are out of my reach now, so its back to the repairing.

Apologies if the grass is a bit long at the front.

A customer donated a flymo the other day, so im going to tackle the front lawn with that, later.

A few near miss falls yesterday, one on the darn sleeping policeman outside the village hall. I could hear gasps as I nearly toppled over, but thankfully, gained my balance and carried on walking, thanking heavens that I didnt land on the tarmac. The second one was at home, but, hey, that's normal.

Woke up this morning with vertigo. Started in the night and I had a very restless sleep.

On the stove today is a Greek inspired creamy chicken and broccoli dish on a bed of rice. Very tasty.

Just going to finish off a few cakes, once my head has stopped spinning, then I. Going g to rest a while.

See you later

Good morning.

Another lovely day yesterday and here we are, Saturday already!

I really dont know where the week has gone!

Summer is running away already, and I've not had chance to enjoy it yet! It will soon me 21st June, the longest daylight day and then we head into the shorter day months. This cant be here already.

Ive been thinking of all the things I want to do in my lifetime. A bucket list. Some I don't think I will achieve, others are reachable. .

Have you thought of what you want to do and why you've not achieved it yet?

The tearoom was a big one for me and although not finished, it certainly something I can almost tick off.

Italy is another one I have. In all my years in travel, its one place I never got to. At this rate, with life so financillary tight, I dont think i will achieve it, so can someone note, ๐Ÿค” when im gone, a few ashes should go to Italy. At least I would have achieved it.๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿคฃ

I think for me, its the time. I seem to have the tearoom on my mind all the time and its rare to have a feeling of freedom with nothing to think about

Having gone out last Saturday, that felt free. Tina and I out to see a medium show. I felt like I didn't have to rush and I didn't feel so much like a naughty school girl "wagging" school (which I did once!), I often felt like that, if I missed a day off work in the past and now a day in the tearoom.

I need to try and achieve my bucket list, but it seems no time, to even achieve the odd one or two. You have to think of everyone else too. Who it would affect, what it would affect.

Unfortunately, Mark being the way he is, it sort of stopped our dreams. We were a team together and nothing could stop us. If we wanted something or wanted to achieve something, we did it together. Now he's a stranger in the house. I have to think about his safety and of course Sam's. So lots of things get in the way.

I cant work either as I am a carer for two. Yes of course I facilitate this place, but not for money. In the old days I would have retired at 55, now I've got to wait until im 67 or perhaps older! God forbid!

So im rewriting my bucket list, to what I may be able to achieve. The campervan is due its MOT, that will form part of it. The rest is to be written. Im not thinking of falling out of a plane, anytime, im not thinking of running a marathon, something more subtle perhaps.

I know i want to write a book, or or a few.

Maybe back to university for a random degree this time. Something a little different to what I have. Maybe an MFA in creative writing and publishing. That could kill two birds with one stone.

I want to make a bigger effort at recycling furniture. I love doing things like that and perhaps renovate a cottage somewhere. Another thing I love. Property. Ive done them in the past, but had to sell when Mark became ill.

A small hideaway this time, maybe! Oh...that needs a lot of money.
๐Ÿค”๐Ÿซฃ

Have you ever thought about your own bucket list? Is there anything different you'd like to achieve?

So, whilst I ponder, I will disinfect the kitchen for the day.

See you later. ๐Ÿค”

Good morning.

A much more calmer and safer day yesterday. No real falls or trips.

I took Sam off to have a check up after her surgical extraction two weeks ago and all was well. Infact, the comment was how well she had healed in a short time. So unless I break a front tooth again, all is done until check ups in December.

The banner has arrived for the car boot sale. Think i will get a second one too. Looks good. Its the 15th August. Leaflets and signs will go out soon.

Another cheese cake will join the cakes this morning. Im making this one a salted caramel. Some rhubarb and strawberries from the garden and mint, will make perhaps for a pie. Not made a pie in a while. Now all the fruits are appearing, its time to get down to summer.

Just cooking off a gammon ham this morning, the belly pork has all gone....that went quick so its time to do something with chicken. Maybe a creamy chicken with pasta and parmagane and perhaps a chicken curry.

Our burgers are very tasty and we have added a new lamb and mint which I.love. you get the full flavour of the lamb through it. Often you do t know which meat you are eating in a burger, but these are definitely lamb. Of course our beef steak burgers are lovely too. Just need to get i to making the Mexican minced steak. I may get a cha ce this morning.

The pizzas of course are always lovely..made by our assistants and have a lovely flavour. Good Italian type bases and toppings you can actually taste above the base. They do a good job and are in my opinion, a cut above the rest. Have your own ideas for toppings,.Just let us know.

Lots of salads.growing outside.. if you order a salad, or it accompanies your meal, it's ours. organically grown, trust me...angel Anne has a nightmare keeping things off them. Even the strawberries have suffered some casualties.

Anyone have those cloches spare, let me know. We grow everything in raised beds, but still the birds, bugs etc, find them. Yes a lot of them are covered now, but clotches can always be used.

We actually need an army of people to help clear down there. We want to put down a base of say shingle or shells, but really needs a good clear first. If you know of a group that can spare a couple of days, let me know.. most of it is light manual work.
If you have some spare slabs, we could do with those too.

It does look amazing in the garden, but it needs to be a bit clearer to manage all the extra bits. We have a shed to go up, to put it all away in, but again, not easy on your own and time is getting on. We also have a ramp to finish outside. Quite urgent that one really.

Looks like less rain today,.certainly warmer. It was a bit chilly yesterday and I put my fan heater on at home, just to take the chill off. I refused to put the central heating on!

So, im just listening. Inside i can hear the water pumps for the fish tanks, with the tones of a peacock calling outside. Its a , 'here I am' call. Nothing dramatic.

The birds are not singing yet , that's unusual. Maybe they are just waming up. I will sit outside for a while and have a coffee. I have to feed the outside fish, too so a great opportunity to hear them wake up. I love that outside area. Its quite a unique space and relaxing especially when its warm. ๐Ÿงก

The friskney show is on Sunday. We are not there, but we wish them well and hope its successful. Shame no dog show again. I must admit, my days of the dog show organisation are over. It was a very stressful but enjoyable time. Took two hours to take all the bookings, then sort them into categories, then prepare them for the judges, who were always from out the area, so they knew no one, then it was running each class, getting the prizes ready and finally, finishing the paperwork and adding up the taking for it to go back into the show the following year. I was always exhausted once it had finished, then woukd go back to our own stall for the rest of the day.

The only thi g that used to bug me, was when people forgot it was a FUN dog show and thought it was crufts and the last minute , I want to enter, when you clearly closed at 12 o'clock to get all the entries sorted into categories. Trust me, often well over 200. People shouting at me, saying its unfair, they wanted to enter their dog ๐Ÿ•. People coming back and entering their dog in more, so trying to find their entry form, people shoving their forms under my nose, Insisting, I just too THEIR entry, even though it was clear I was in the throws of sorting the paperwork out do you know how damm annoying that was! I of course was polite but by the last year, i was much stronger and said no! Yes, more abuse and mumblings. Its not as if i was being paid for it. I was just a volunteer, but how people could be so precious. To those people, go volunteer yourselves and put the shoe on the other foot! No.more dogs shows im afraid. Not even the poultry tent or small animal tent. That was real country village show.

Im sure lots more going on there. So go see. Watch the parking and remember, people live near there.

Right, cheesecake.

See you later.

Good morning.

A lovely day yesterday, calm and relaxing. It did not end up that way for me. ๐Ÿคฃ

We also had a visit for a gentleman who walked around the country and world, sometimes on his bike, raising awareness around homelessness. He found himself many years ago in that position and made it his mission to not take benefit and to highlight his plight and others from then on.

He was on one of those walks, when he arrived to us. Going from Hull and I think down to Portsmouth. His name is Stephen Cambell, known in Merseyside, as Jaffa, originally from Nottingham but grew up most of his life in Bootle. You can Google him. I think he's been doing this since 1983.

He was on his way to Boston, and went on his way to camp out somewhere last night, when he left us. We had an interesting conversation about his experiences, on his journey, over the years.

The rest of the day was lovely until we came back from shopping. Sam took her shopping, and I took a few bits out for me!

So, in my hand, was a rolled up outside large mat, a carton of banana milk, a box of frosties, a couple of pints of milk, (for the young ones, that litres), two bunches of roses (knocked down to 95p, I like to treat myself).
A bottle of washing liquid, and a dog lead and shoulder bag.

Sam took her two carrier bags and I closed the boot after putting down a few things.

Off i trot.....not sure what I stood on, but face planted on the front lawn. There was no way I was letting go of anything. So, after scrambling to my feet, gathering everything and Hope trotting behind. I started again. Pushed the gate open, but it didnt open far. No hands, so I used my body, which was not working against the wheel.on the gate, that had turned sideways. I pushed and shoved and was determined not to release anything from my grasp.. The long mat was in the way as there was no way it was going sidewards. So I turned around, arms getting pretty heavy and having one weak arm, didnt help, so cartons hung like carrying a sack of potatoes, stretching my fingers, frosties under my arm, washing liquid in the good hand, flowers and banana milkshake resting on a bent elbow and balancing between my chin and arm.

I went backwards, pushed with my deriere, to which the gate gave and I went through backwards, with a sudden jolt.

Now my legs joined in, as Hope, followed through the gap, I kicked the gate shut, the mat falling vertically, now one end on the floor, the other end under my chin.

I stood for a while, working out how not to drop anything. The third hand came out (well, I cant work out where it came from, but pushed the mat back to a horizontal position. Off I went heading for home and only three steps to climb, and two doors.

Up I went to catch my right foot on a step and down I went, all my goods, falling to the floor! Another face plant with arms to the side as if a soldier had fallen from his sentry box.

I made a choice, the mat could stay there, as that's where its going to go. The flowers had begun to suffer, a few broken stalks, but it was time to lift everything back up and push through the first door.

Easy....but the second door opened outwards and my 10 fingers on each hand, fiddled like playing some sort of musical instrument, perhaps a guitar, making delicate choices where each finger went and how to open the door. With some miracle, I made it and put the shopping away.

I went I to the bedroom, to plug a few things in, then fell over my trousers leg, which was perhaps too long. Down I went, arms straight to my side, luckily for a soft landing.

I couldn't believe my uncoordinated body.

Time to close some curtains. I grabbed hold of the curtain to pull it closed with a bit if force, only to accidentally, grab the voille underneath, pulling it hard and not only did the curtain wire come off but the whole pvc, window surrounding, snapped off and came with it!

Clumsiness was not the word. I sat down for a bit and decided to get changed to relax a while whilst Hope had a wander in the field.

Only to walk back into the bedroom, stub my toe on the bed leg and down I went ...again!

I stayed there, and refused to move until morning arrived. Luckily the journey to the tearoom was all OK and I've survived to sit and have a coffee.

See you later.

Good morning.

Firstly I must apologise to our early customers for the disruption yesterday morning. Thank you for your patience and next week, you get free coffees for the inconvenience. So glad it wasn't raining. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Yesterday, I took Hope to the vets for this infection that had gone down. She had some antibiotics and a weeks course and then apparently a "miricle drug" for Hopes allergies. We've tried so much and its this time of the year, it starts getting worse. Ive gone the diet root and the natural route, had apoquel which I didnt want to give her, but bless her she was starting to get disruptive sleep again. So this is a trial. Certainly cheaper than apoquel which has so much bad press. She's had 'itch' , collegen, more natural products so we are trying 'zenrelia'
There are always some bad stories, more than good in so many things, but her happiness is my priority and having causing herself infections due to itching, this will give her some relief. I will take her off after the summer as her allergies are less.

But there are good and bad stories on all drugs we take to make ourselves better or cope. Personally i prefer natural, if it works, but my baby is uncomfortable, this is the way to go. Another big bill, but she's worth it.

As I was driving home, i saw one of those signs that says "cats eyes removed" i was being silly, I know, but then thought, how does someone who is not great at understanding English, work that one out. It would seem cruel. So then I thought ๐Ÿค” of autistics who can take ๐Ÿค” la gauge literally.

I asked Sam. She didnt understand what the sign meant and why cats eyes have been removed. She thought it was mean and 'horrible'. I of course had to explain to her what cats eyes were. Which settled her.

But there are some funny sayings we have and expect everyone to inderstand them.

There is the official sign saying "signs not in use" hilarious....i mean...why?

Have you seen the one with a car with explosives on the roof? Meaning no explosives in car! โฟ

The empty red circle sign, which has nothing in it....apparently meaning no vehicles.

We do have some strange signs ๐Ÿค”.

Ours goes up on the fences soon, for the car boot sale on 15th August. Lots of bookings so far, room for more. We've worked out how many we can have to make it a good worthy day. Advertising will begin shortly.

We have one charity tombola stall, not ours, and that's all we will have, the rest must be genuine car boots. The event will be on the field, car parking, in the tearoom car park and the front of the house and garden. Signs will be there. For sellers it will be 11.30 arrival. For buyers 12.30. Its a Saturday, so you can fit it in when you go shopping. The noshery will be open for drinks and food.

All stalls will be ยฃ5. No spreading or traders please. A nice genuine boot sale to get rid of your 'ill gotten gains' (in the idiomatic sense, not the illegal sense)

We are having a stall too and all our sales go directly to Grandma's Pudding Co .

If it rains, gazebos allowed. Hopefully it won't.

Back to the cake call out, lemon cream cake, orange summit cake, chocolate cake, vixtoria sandwich gf, lemon muffin. We are also selling our grantham gingers biscuits which are rather moorish for ยฃ2 a pack.
All made by the assistants.

Oops im late...

Oh you have to try our lamb burgers. Gosh they are lovely

See you later

Good morning.

I escaped yesterday for a while and went on a exploration of local meat supplies. We also stopped at the vets and booked an appointment for later today, as Hope's ear has started again and she also has a lump that side. I think she may have scratched it and perhaps ๐Ÿค” got an infection or abscess. I guess thats going to cost.

The allergies are not as bad this year. Fingers crossed, it will stay like that. So I do need to leave promptly today to get to our appointment on time.

Yesterday, Harry and Emma, made more Grantham Ginger biscuits. The same as we gave away on our 5th year anniversary. This time we are selling the pack for ยฃ2. So if you liked them, we have them for sale here.
(They are not gluten free)

Tomorrow, I will be adding a special of rolled stuffed pork belly. Served with a portion of boiled buttered salad potatoes and a fruity salad. I couldn't resist the pork belly. One of my favourites.

We are also offering, from today, as well as our minced steak burgers, some lamb and mint burgers for a change. Topped with fresh mint, cheese and a tzatziki sauce, tomato and green salad. We will see how they go before we fully add them to the menu.

Pizza of course is now on every day, we are exploring another Italian dish, could be something as simple as a lasagne or perhaps I bring the pizza, lasagne dish back?

Ive noticed recently some other small.businesses closing down. The windmill at burgh, so very sad. Ive had lovely meals there. Im not sure if its lack of money, people eating out in some of the larger chains or people just have lost the umph to go out. How very upsetting. A beautiful venue with uniqueness.

Its not just them, there are other independent businesses who are struggling. Its important, we try to support these places. I try and buy local all the time. If the service is good, the quality is good, it gets my business. Yes, price is always a factor, if its a silly price, then I would hesitate, but generally, if its fairly competitive, perhaps a little more compared to a chain or supermarket, I will buy from an independent who locally produce food and ingredients.

Here, we are unique and our primary purpose is to support our adults on an independent, confident future ๐Ÿ˜€. We are non for profit, yes, its nice to make some money for projects or equipment or updates. We are all volunteers, we dont recieve grants, it takes us a while to save for new equipment, or replacement equipment when things break down. Although I own the land and building, I do not take rent or a lease. I set up the tearoom for one purpose. Why, because I have a daughter who has had the same experiences as all the others who are here or who have passed through our doors. Judgement!

I had to do something, and that is my reward. Seeing them change, grow, build their self worth and have some fun and pride.

So we need supporting too. We keep our prices as low as possible, but our quality high.

A unique rural noshery, which does extraordinary things. Come and be part of it.

See you later.

Good morning

I hope you had a good weekend. Saturday here was quiet, but we got lots done and more grantham gingers biscuits made, as requested. Kayleigh learning from Harry, how to make them.

I went out on Saturday, to the embassy, to see a medium. Always wanted to go, to work out how it is done. I am not a believer and probably less so, but an Interesting and entertaining evening.

It was a shame, that some people felt they needed to go to the loo, even after the request was not to leave seats until the interval and one woman was on the phone, very loud, it seemed to be an argument, with two others joining in. They were was asked to leave. I dont know why, I felt embarrassed, that it even happened. So disrespectful. I noted a review of the show that evening on FB, by a single person, anonymously written, which is highly suspicious and I think likely written by one of those people.

Tina and I were quite impressed how it worked and me being skeptical, is wondering if the audience, who took part, were planted. If not, he was pretty accurate.

A good entertaining night, with humour and good banter from the artist. It was on my bucket list, so thats a tick.

Im off to see Jasper Carrot next! On my own! He's a comedian from the past, who i have always loved and when he seemed to retire, i thought it was the last we would see of him. I hope he still has that pazzaz he used to have. He was the first I remember, using situation comedy. Similar to Michael Macintyre, who has me in fits at times.

Being out Saturday night, felt strange. I felt like I was wagging school. The feeling of freedom was overwhelming, I had no real time limits, Hope was safe at Angus's, so it all felt surreal. I was still suffering from a bit of vertigo, but nothing to stop me going.

I hope i manage to get that freedom feeling again. I guess, always at the back of my mind, is Grandma's Pudding Co , Sam and Mark and of course Hope. Being a carer must be quite mind filling, without me really realising it.

So back to here. Ive got some lemons, so there must be something lemony to be made this morning. I will have a bash and see what I come up with. Maybe a bit of orange too?

Im feeling we need to start on summer flavours and keep some traditional. So im going into the kitchen to plan. The strawberries are growing well outside, so maybe during the week, a strawberry cheesecake. All the salads are growing well too.

Let's see what appears in the cake fridge this morning. By the time you read this, I should have done it all.

Off to go spread my freedom in the kitchen.

See you later.

06/06/2026

Good morning.

Another lovely day, popped in our memory box. Today its a bit wet this morning, but looks like it may dry up later. Its certainly not cold.

As I left yesterday, the walls were spinning, obvious a vertigo attack. Not that I get that often. I went straight to bed and waited for the feeling to go. Not great as the nausea started. Luckily Angus was gping to the dog park, I would normally go, but couldnt stand up properly. He took Hope, so she had a good run around with her buddies.

She's a funny girl. When she realises where she is going, she squeals so loud, its painful to the ear. No where else does she do that.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Woke up this morning with a headache sort of like one of those sharp ones on the right side. Guess its all part of being tired.

Im off out tonight. Im not saying where, as its out my comfort zone, but will tell you all about it on Monday. If there is anything to tell. Believe it or not, its on my bucket list. ๐Ÿ˜—

I turned on FB this morning, ready to write my daily blog and the first two things that came up, were someone slating a local business; , not called for in my opinion. I know the business and they have been very kind to us, but I dont get why you would pull them down over FB to try and destroy them.

The business has been established many years and it's all about a price. Its like spreading hate. The second post I saw, but again, about hate, but some individual, not even in the area. Why on earth it appeared, I have no idea.

I feel very sad that it happens on social media. Im pretty sure it has an affect on people, when they wake up to hate posts. Very sad. Why not put something nice on!

Yesteday, I recieved the most heart warming letter off one of our customers, that really did lift my spirits. Im going to frame it and use it to remind me every day, why I get up in the morning. The customer also has the same affliction as Mark. He's so lovely.

He had reacted to a post I put on about the lady in London. It must have been so hard for him to write; and I really appreciate the time he had taken to put things in perspective. Just a beautiful soul, another who should never have to cope with the illness he has. Seems the nicest people can have the roughest time.

I will read it often and keep myself topped up with his words. Perhaps there should be more words like his spread in the media and less of what I woke up to this morning.

When I look around at the noshery, I have to remind myself how this place came about, how it has improved over the years with just the love, devotion and kindness of so many people.

Our assistants are amazing. I have seen them flourish, be happy, face challenges and come through them in a positive light. Ive seen them grow in confidence, their smiles growing wider and their conversations become more engaging and Insightful.

Let's see more positives on social media, less swearing..(there was a lot, this morning on here) spread the positives and celebrate differences, not battle against them.

So come in and celebrate good life with us. Lots on the menu. Try them all. Cake and coffee or light bites or even a lovely pizza or burger. Our adults love inventing more. If they had their way, id swear we would have a steakhouse...๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿคฃ

Time for coffee.

See you soon and remind yourself to ๐Ÿ˜ƒ smile.

05/06/2026

Good morning

A bit chilly earlier, but its getting warmer and the sun is out.

The mass amount of rain we've recently had, filled the pond in the field. Not what was needed as its due to have a revamp. As Hope went out this morning, she kept growling and barking. She was not liking the pond area at all, but nothing was there.

I then realised, that the sun was hitting the water and in the small amount of sight Hope has in one eye, the water was glistening and moving. She was actually scared and running back from it, but then trying to go closer, to scare what ever it was, she thought she was seeing. A few cuddles and she was OK, although clingy since.

So last night the music went on. No one was around, so, I think it was YouTube music, but amazingly, it played all the music from the 60's 70's and 80,'s that I love.

So without a care in the world, I had a two hour dance festival. Dancing , singing at the top of my voice, jumping around, and trying to reach every note.....obviously, it didnt matter and im not the best singer in the world...in fact, I don't think the word 'sing', comes into it. More cat wailing. I didnt care.

I slipped into a beautiful green silk lounge dress and danced and ended up in the field. There, I bounced, frolicking, twirling, perfecting the old dances and moves, around the field. There were times I couldnt hear the music, so I made it up. (I think I need wireless ear phones). Hope wasn't impressed. At first getting excited at me, then, getting confused, then walking off in disgust.

There, I smiled, looked up to the sky, swirled and enjoyed every song that played, skipping some that felt cliche, and repeating others that meant something.

Eventually coming inside, laying on my bed and continuing to sing. I thought about the noise, but as when we originally bought the house, it was surrounded by fields for agriculture, this was one of the reasons, we bought the place, for its peace (not so much now) but no one should hear.

About midnight, I stopped. The music off and peace. I'd enjoyed myself. I wasn't exhausted, in fact I think I have another date tonight! Whether its rain or fading sun, i dont care. Its my place, and I should be free!

Apart from the sharp needle pains down my chest, I was fit and ready to go again. (Pains still there this morning, but guess I could have pulled something.)

So if you hear of some strange woman dancing the night away on a field yes, I will own it....its is me! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿ˜Š

Its Friday, I've got a bit of work to do before we open, mostly, the disinfecting, but im almost ready for a coffee, and perhaps a bit of a similar singing, before Sam gets in and does the usual face pulling, at my cat wailing.

See you later
