Update, 6.45pm: Barriers have lifted and traffic can now pass.

Original post: There are significant delays to motorists in Boston after a broken-down freight train has made a railway crossing impassable.

We received a call at 4.30pm today to report that barriers at the crossing near the town’s railway station were down.

Sluice Bridge is believed to be passable but Sleaford Road is completely blocked, John Adams Way gridlocked and traffic is backed up to Fishtoft.

Motorists should avoid the area if possible.

We will update when we have further information.
