The club was founded by Mr JP Dixon on 27th April 1895 for the people of Marton. Originally primarily a reading and meeting room for gentlemen. The Marton remains a private member club with no affiliations to any organisations, political or religious bodies. In 1895 the Marton Institute site was the only major building and was surrounding by fields. The building fund for the building came from a donation of £500 by Mr James Parrot and a loan from Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank. The people of Marton provided much of the physical labour to build the club, Mr Frank H Gorst provided architectural services and Mr Charles R Hardman undertook all legal works all at no cost to the club. The Management structure is the same to-day as in 1895, i.e. Trustees, Council and Management Committee.

🎨 WOW! We’ve had so much interest in our Paint & Sip post, now we just need someone to lead the class! 🖌️🍷

Are you a local artist (or do you know someone who is) who would love to host a fun, relaxed painting session? We’d love to hear from you!

If you’re interested, or know the perfect person for the job, please get in touch or tag them in the comments. Let’s make this event happen! ✨

✨ We’re thinking of trying something new at Marton Institute…

We’re always looking at ways to make better use of our facilities and create affordable events that bring people together.

Life is busy. We’re all constantly rushing from one thing to the next, and sometimes it’s important to make time to slow down, switch off and do something simply because you enjoy it.

One idea we’ve been discussing is Paint & Sip afternoons/evenings – a relaxed, welcoming space where you can unwind, get creative and enjoy a couple of hours doing something a little different. No experience needed, just a chance to take some time for yourself.

Before we make it happen, we’d love to know if it’s something people would actually enjoy. Let us know in the comments! 💖
