Shabbir Hussain (late), the respected Founder and Owner of Akbar’s, was a visionary entrepreneur whose passion, leadership, and dedication transformed British Asian dining in the United Kingdom. His journey began in 1995 with a humble ten-table restaurant on Leeds Road in Bradford. From this modest beginning, through tireless effort and an uncompromising commitment to quality and innovation, he built Akbar’s into a nationally celebrated brand. Today, his legacy lives on through renowned branches including Akbar’s Manchester, Leeds, Rotherham, Sheffield, Middlesbrough, and Birmingham, along with other locations across the UK, stretching from Glasgow to Newcastle, and the newly established, state-of-the-art Akbar’s Blackburn.
Affectionately known as the “King of Curry,” Shabbir Hussain was a true pioneer who redefined scale, presentation, and excellence in the industry. His bold vision and entrepreneurial spirit elevated traditional cuisine to an iconic dining experience, earning widespread recognition and deep respect from guests, colleagues, and communities alike. More than a successful restaurateur, he was an inspirational leader and mentor whose values of hard work, consistency, and hospitality remain at the heart of Akbar’s.
Although he is no longer with us, his presence is felt in every restaurant, every dish, and every guest experience. We remain committed to preserving and advancing his remarkable legacy, carrying forward his vision with pride, integrity, and unwavering dedication.
