❤️🏆 No trophy this time, but we still came home with so much.

Yesterday was OPPA Kitchen’s very first time competing in the British Street Food Awards Northern Heat. 🥟🇬🇧

Let’s get the result out of the way first: we didn’t win anything. 😂

But by the time we packed up and headed home, Wing and I both agreed that this was honestly one of the most enjoyable events we’ve ever been part of.

First of all, a huge congratulations to all of yesterday’s winners! 🏆👏 The standard of street food traders was incredibly high, and for newcomers like us, simply having the opportunity to compete alongside everyone was already a brilliant experience.

We didn’t make it onto the podium this time, so we’ll just have to stand underneath it, watch carefully and learn from the people who did. 😂 Hopefully one day, we’ll be good enough to stand up there ourselves and have a trophy handed to us too. 🥟🏆

This year was even more special for us because, after being held in Manchester city centre for many years, the Northern Heat came to Stockport for the very first time. To be one of the traders competing at the first Stockport edition really was an honour. ❤️

A massive thank you has to go to John and his family, as well as everyone working behind the scenes. From arrival and set-up to trading, judging, voting and the awards, everything was so thoughtfully organised.

As traders, we didn’t have to worry about anything. We could simply stand behind our pans and concentrate on cooking the best Gyoza we could. That’s the kind of event you finish and immediately think: we’d love to do that again. 👏🥟

And of course, thank you Stockport. ❤️

Before we had even officially opened, one lovely local customer came over, picked up our menu and asked what time we were starting. Once we opened, she became our very first customer of the day and the first person to vote for us. Wing loved her so much that she had to ask for a photo together. 😂❤️

Throughout the day, we saw so many familiar Stockport faces. Customers who had eaten our Gyoza before, friends who came along to cheer us on, and plenty of new customers trying our seven flavours for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to look at the menu, queued for Gyoza, wished us good luck and voted for us. 🙏🥟

And we also have to thank the amazing Hong Kong community who came to support us. 🇭🇰❤️ Some live around Stockport, some were volunteering locally with a CIC, and one family of three even travelled all the way up from London by train just to be there.

Throughout the day, we kept hearing people ordering their food and suddenly saying our little secret phrase: “Hong Kongers, keep going!” 😂🇭🇰

Every single time, Wing and I smiled.

So no, we really weren’t disappointed to go home without a trophy.

It was our first competition, and we went there to learn. We met some incredibly talented traders, experienced a brilliantly organised event and had so many people come over throughout the day to support us.

For OPPA Kitchen’s first time competing, that already feels like a pretty good result. 😊

The other amazing traders can look after the trophies for now. 😂🏆

We’ll keep cooking Gyoza, keep learning and keep improving.

Hopefully, the next time we compete in the British Street Food Awards, we can make it just a little bit further.

And if one day we do get the chance to stand on that podium, I think Wing and I will always remember one thing:

Our very first British Street Food Awards competition happened right here in Stockport. ❤️🥟

Thank you, Stockport.

We genuinely loved every minute of it. ❤️🏆🥟

🥟 Stockport, we’re back this Sunday for BSFA! 🏆

Over the past six months, if you’ve been around the Market Place outside The Stockport Market on a Saturday, there’s a good chance you’ve seen us before.

OPPA Kitchen has traded here more than 20 times, and through all those Saturdays we’ve got to know so many local customers in Stockport. Some people tried us once while passing by, some came back again and again, and there are now plenty of familiar faces we recognise straight away. ❤️

That includes regular customers like Kate O'Brien Art, who have come back to support us time after time and slowly become the kind of familiar face we always hope to see whenever we return to Stockport. 🥟❤️

So this Sunday feels a little bit special for our family of three.

We’re just a small family-run street food business. The three of us have spent one Saturday after another setting up, trading and standing behind the pans, slowly building up all those little experiences along the way.

This time, we’ll be returning to the same Stockport Market Place, but instead of a normal Saturday pop up, we’ll be competing in the British Street Food Awards - Northern Heat. 🥟🔥🏆

As well as the judges’ competition, there will also be a People’s Choice vote, with one vote per person.

So if you’ve eaten with us before in Stockport and you’re free this Sunday, we’d genuinely love to see you again.

Come and say hello, grab your favourite Gyoza, and if you still think OPPA Kitchen deserves your vote after eating, we’d be very grateful if you gave it to us. ❤️

No need to vote for us just because you’ve supported us before.

Try the food. If you think we deserve it, then vote for us. 😎🥟

We’d also like to say a big thank you to The Stockport Market for giving us so many opportunities to meet everyone here.

A special thank you as well to the team behind Stockport Foodie Friday for supporting us and giving us the opportunity to be part of this year’s competition. ❤️

And to the recently connected Stockport Hongkongers - Community interest group, who’ll also be running a Hong Kong cultural workshop this Sunday near the competition area, beside Stockroom Stockport

If you have time, please pop over, have a look and learn a little more about Hong Kong culture. 🇭🇰❤️

Hopefully this Sunday we’ll not only see many of the Stockport locals who have supported us along the way, but also more Hongkongers from around the area coming together to enjoy the day.

From more than 20 ordinary Saturday pop ups to competing in the British Street Food Awards at the very same Market Place, this really does mean something to our little family of three.

Thank you to everyone in Stockport who has supported us, stopped to say hello, and come back to eat with us again and again.

See you again this Sunday. ❤️

Back in Stalybridge last Friday night! 🥟🍻

Since April, we’ve been coming back on the second Friday of every month, and one of the best parts is seeing local people come out after work, grab some food, have a drink and enjoy the evening together. ❤️

Last Friday had such a great atmosphere again. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for Gyoza, came over to say hello, or returned to see us again. 🥟🔥

Stalybridge is quickly becoming one of those places we really look forward to coming back to every month.

If you were there last Friday, come and say hello in the comments! 👋😄

See you again next month. ❤️

Kenneth

❤️ Thank you, Halifax! 🥟🌾☀️

Last Saturday, we brought our Japanese Gyoza to Halifax Agricultural Show 2026 for the very first time. 🇯🇵🥟

From the moment we arrived at Savile Park in the morning, we knew this was going to feel very different from the usual food festivals we attend.

🐴 Horses, 🐑 sheep, 🐄 cattle, 🚜 tractors, 🚗 vintage vehicles, live displays, market stalls, food traders and families everywhere — the whole park felt like one huge countryside celebration right in the heart of Halifax. 🎪🌳

What we loved most was how local and relaxed everything felt. ❤️

Families weren’t simply arriving, eating and leaving. Many stayed for hours — watching the animals, looking around the vintage vehicles, enjoying the food, catching up with friends and simply spending a sunny Saturday together. ☀️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🐶

As a small family-run street food business travelling around different towns and cities, one of our favourite parts of trading is getting to experience how different communities come together. 😊

And of course, a huge **thank you** to everyone who stopped by our stall to try our Gyoza. 🥟❤️

Some were trying us for the first time, some came back for more, and others returned with friends and family. Those little moments genuinely mean a lot to a small family business like ours. 🙏🥰

Before trading started, the two of us took the chance to have a proper walk around the show and take lots of photos. 📸

Vintage cars, tractors, animals, stalls, food… and a few photos of all of you enjoying the day at Savile Park too. 🚜🐄🍴🎪

So we’ve picked out a selection of our favourite photos to share with everyone who joined **Halifax Agricultural Show** last Saturday. 📷❤️

👀 Were you there too?

Have a look through the photos and see if you can spot yourself, someone you know, or somewhere you recognise. 😊📸

Thank you, Halifax, for such a lovely Saturday. ❤️🌾

Hopefully we’ll see you again soon! 🥟👋

🥟❤️ Sometimes, a single conversation can change everything.

Last Friday, Wing and I stopped by Stockport Foodie Friday.

Originally, we were just popping over to see a few friends after visiting Joby and Kenneth at their regular trading pitch nearby. We also wanted to catch up with John, the founder of Foodie Friday.

The moment John saw Wing, the very first thing he said was:

"Congratulations to Joby!" 🎉

He'd been following Joby's recent success at the Youth Trader Market North West Final, where he won the Food & Drink Category.

John then kindly took us on a tour of the market, introducing us to several new traders before leading us to a particular spot.

Smiling, he said:

"This is where you'll be trading on 23rd August for the British Street Food Awards." 🏆

That was the moment we officially found out that Oppa Kitchen had been selected to compete in the British Street Food Awards 2026 – Northern Heat.

For our family, simply being invited to compete is already an incredible honour.

But what touched us most came next.

John told us he'd really love to see Joby return with his Korean Corn Dogs for the competition. 🌭

Of course, he's also happy for Wing and me to compete with our Japanese Gyoza 🥟, but he genuinely believes Joby's Corn Dogs deserve to be on that stage.

When we got home, we passed John's message on to Joby.

There's just one problem...

Joby had already arranged a long-awaited trip with around twenty of his former A-Level classmates, travelling up towards Scotland during exactly the same period.

Everything had already been booked.

But after hearing what John had said, Joby's first reaction wasn't to give up.

Instead, he immediately started looking into whether he could shorten the trip and return to Manchester early.

If he's able to make it back in time, the plan may be for Joby to lead our British Street Food Awards entry with his Korean Corn Dogs, possibly alongside Kenneth.

Wing and I would happily step aside and become their biggest cheerleaders. ❤️📣

At the moment, nothing has been decided yet.

As soon as we know more, we'll be sure to share an update with everyone here.

And if you're free on Sunday 23rd August, we'd love to see you in Stockport Market.

One of the best things about the British Street Food Awards is that it's not just the judges who decide the outcome...

Every visitor gets the chance to eat, enjoy and vote. 🗳️🍴

Hopefully, we'll see you there! 🥟❤️

🥟🍺 Thank You, Liverpool! ❤️

Yesterday was our very first Gyoza Day at Azvex Brewery & Taproom, and what an incredible day it turned out to be.

A huge thank you to Charlie and the entire Azvex team for making us feel so welcome. With the beautiful sunshine, they kindly set up plenty of outdoor seating right in front of our stall, creating the perfect place for everyone to relax with a craft beer and enjoy freshly cooked Japanese gyoza.

Watching people spend the afternoon outdoors with friends and family was a real pleasure. Great beer, great food, plenty of sunshine and a fantastic atmosphere – it was exactly the kind of Saturday you hope for.

One family in particular made our day. Three generations came together to celebrate a birthday, starting with a few of our sharing platters before returning again and again to try more flavours. It was wonderful to see everyone gathered around the table, laughing, sharing food and making memories together. Moments like these remind us that food is about much more than just eating – it's about bringing people together.

We also finally had the chance to visit Pastille Bakery across the road. All morning we watched the queue stretching outside and wondered what all the excitement was about. By the afternoon we managed to grab a pistachio croissant and a cheesecake, and after the very first bite we completely understood why so many people had been waiting. Liverpool really is home to some amazing independent businesses.

By around 5pm we had completely sold out, and we're so sorry to everyone who came later hoping for gyoza. We genuinely didn't expect to sell out so early! Charlie was already smiling and telling us, "Next time, bring more!" We definitely will.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, whether you came for lunch, dinner, a beer with friends, or simply to say hello. Your support, your kind words and your warm welcome made our very first visit to Azvex one we'll never forget.

We hope this won't be our last Gyoza Day at Azvex Brewery & Taproom, and we can't wait to see you all again soon.

See you next time, Liverpool! ❤️🥟🍺

🙇🏻🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♂️❤️
