Incredible Surplus has been operating since October 2014 under the name The Real Junk Food Project Birmingham, and serves thousands of people each year. The project aims to intercept food and other items that would otherwise go to waste and redistribute for all on a "Pay-As-You-Feel" basis. In 2020 we decided to move away from the 'Junk Food' label as it was frequently misunderstood, and didn't ad

equately describe all our activities. We don't just do burgers, we also have healthy food, we grow our own at allotments and grow sites, and rescue all sorts of non-food items too! The "Pay-As-You-Feel" ( ) concept
PAYF offers an alternative to conventional payment systems. People can pay for what they receive by donating their cash, time, or skills to the project. By making people think about what they wish to contribute we aim to force society as a whole to think about how they value these resources. The Pay-As-You-Feel concept is an essential part of the project, as everything we do has value and there is value in everything.

Congratulations to Megan Hanson, who officially joins the gardening team in September! 🥳

Megan has been undertaking her trainee placement at our beautiful Botanic Garden, developing practical skills and valuable knowledge through the Historic and Botanic Garden Training Programme (HBGTP). 🧑‍🌾🪏

The programme gives trainees the opportunity to work alongside professional teams in historic and botanic gardens across the UK, building their knowledge, developing their skills and gaining valuable hands-on experience.
