Slow Food Birmingham

Slow Food Birmingham Sustainable Biodiversity Local - getting producers to meet eaters. Changing the world one meal at a time.

Slow Food Birmingham volunteers bring the farm shop to the city by enabling you to buy the best local, seasonal produce. The online shop is open all week to place orders which will then be available for collection on Thursday evenings from 1000 Trades. We’re continuing to be Covid cautious so are masked up at all times and operating a one in one out policy with specific collection times. The globa

l Slow Food movement works to reconnect people with where their food comes from and inspire an active interest in local food production. Slow Food Birmingham aims to champion local producers and food businesses, providing a fresher, tastier and more sustainable alternative to the carbon intensive supply chains of major supermarkets that also supports the local economy and local people. 20% of the cost of your order also goes towards supporting local food banks, Slow Food initiatives and the team work closely with groups who redistribute surplus food in the city so that everyone can have access to fresh, healthy and good quality food. It is the team's ambition to grow awareness of the Slow Food ethos and create hubs across the city, providing alternatives to the big supermarkets that dominate the high street. If you'd like to be involved, (we're a friendly and jovial bunch) feel free to get in touch on social media or by email on the website: https://slowfoodbirmingham.co.uk

🌳 The farmland around Hampton-in-Arden is becoming a hub for regenerative and organic farming.

🐛 Last night at we gathered with farmers and food lovers to watch .

After the film, local farmers from the Hampton-in-Arden area spoke about their regenerative practices. They’re reviving land with cover crops, livestock and biodiversity. No pesticides, herbicides or insecticides. Just farming that puts the health of the soil first.

They thanked restaurants like , who design menus around whatever the farms can harvest that week. It takes real vision to cook this way.

When asked how we can help, the farmers said:
💬 Sign up for a local veg box
💬 Buy directly from farms
💬 Push back when supermarkets say people don’t care where food comes from

We ate Lavinton lamb shoulder from shepherdess Sophie Arlott, pudding and bread made with Turners of Bytham flour and left full in every sense🤎.

Yesterday was quite an eclectic day for Slow Food, I was reminded of the different ways food impact us and why we love working in food. So first up, I checked on the progress of some garlic I’m nurturing for gardening students. Can’t wait to tell them that germination is happening. Then off to Perry Barr to deliver 4 free range turkeys to be cooked for 150 homeless people this Saturday at New Bell Homeless Outreach, all kindly donated by members of . Last night was our second slow food drinks where we were met by a carol singers. Turkeys sourced by the best butcher who gave us a generous discount. They are open from 5am on Xmas Eve!
