A whole sea bass, baked in a delicate sea salt crust — a traditional Italian technique that helps preserve the fish’s succulent texture and subtle flavour.

Then comes the part you don’t get at home…

The salt crust is cracked open at your table, the fish is carefully filleted, grappa is poured over, and it is flambéed right in front of you — flames and all.

It’s elegant, dramatic, and very Lucarelli.

Today in Italy, everything slows down.

Ferragosto is celebrated every year on 15th August and is one of Italy’s most loved summer traditions — a day for family, food, sunshine, sea, and taking a proper pause.

For many Italians, it marks the heart of the summer holidays. Beaches are full, tables are long, lunch lasts for hours, and no one is in a rush to be anywhere else.

So today, with the Amalfi Coast on our minds, we’re bringing a little of that Ferragosto feeling to Lucarelli — good food, good company, and that Italian reminder to slow down and enjoy the moment.

This is Tropea in Calabria, the hometown of our General Manager, Pasquale — a place known for clear blue sea, warm Italian summers and its famous Cipolla Rossa di Tropea, the sweet red onion often called one of Calabria’s symbols.

And that’s what we love about Italy: every region has its own story, its own ingredients, and its own traditions.

Ever wondered why Lucarelli is called Lucarelli? 🇮🇹🤍

Today feels like the perfect day to tell you.

Lucarelli was named after Gianluca, our CEO Carmine’s first grandchild — and today, Gianluca turns 18.

For us, the name Lucarelli has always meant family. It carries Italian tradition, pride, love, and the belief that food brings people together across generations.

So today, from everyone at Lucarelli Mailbox, we want to wish Gianluca a very happy 18th birthday.

Look who joined us at Lucarelli Italian Restaurant last night… Rob Key and Joe Root🏏🇮🇹

We were delighted to welcome two huge names from English cricket for dinner — especially after the recent announcement that Joe Root is returning as England Men’s Test captain.

Root already holds the record for captaining England Men in the most Test matches, and Rob Key continues to play a key role as Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket. A seriously exciting new chapter for the team.
