If you’ve been meaning to visit Hartland Abbey, now is the time!

We’d love to see you before we close for the winter. There’s not long to go before our small, very hardworking team head off for some well-earned holidays. 🍃♥️🍂

So, we hope to see lots of autumn visitors before we close at 5pm on Thursday 1st October. 🌿

The plants are looking lovely in the Walled Gardens at the moment, including Heptacodium with its wonderful scent, all the salvias which have loved the heat, the cosmos and vibrant annuals, the dahlias, the daturas in the summerhouse and so much more.

As always, four-legged friends are really welcome in the gardens and on beach walks too. 🐾

🍂 September is a special, quieter time after the summer holidays for visiting with its fascinating, historic interiors and exhibitions, beautiful gardens and walks, and delicious homemade fare in the Old Kitchens Tea Room. ☕🍃

Walks in the autumn light to the Atlantic coast and back via the Gazebo and Summerhouse are a joy - with or without a four-legged friend - passing through ancient woodland, stunted by years of Atlantic gales. 🌊🍁🐾

Thanks to the recent rain, the gardens are recovering from the heat and sparkling again!

Our darling donkeys Snowdrop and Becky have absolutely loved the recent Mediterranean style heat - as has our display of annual flowers in the Walled Gardens! ☀️🫏💛 🌸🌺🌿 After eight weeks without a drop, we’re very happy to have finally welcomed a little rain over the last few days! 🌦️

Country Life (August 12): Kate Green salutes Dr William Stukeley for saving Stonehenge from destruction in the 1700s.

Thank you to Country Life Magazine for your article on Dr William Stukeley, our antecedent and hero, who saved Stonehenge from the 'stonekillers'. They were determined to destroy the stones to make tracks and houses in the 18thC! Without him, Stonehenge would probably not be standing as we see it today.

We have a fascinating permanent exhibition at Hartland Abbey on the life of this extraordinary polymath, both Druid and Vicar, architect, numismatist, doctor, friend of Isaac Newton, Edmund Halley, Sir Hans Sloane and much, much more!

Entry to the exhibition is included with your ticket to the gardens and walks.
The exhibition is open Sundays to Thursdays, from 11am–4.30pm.
