Wednesday 3rd June will be our final day of trading from Parkers car park.
After a lot of thought (and more than a few sleepless nights), we’ve made the difficult decision to close the business. It’s certainly not the ending we had hoped for, but unfortunately we’ve been left with very little choice, as Parkers now require the space for operational reasons… apparently after 13 years they’ve suddenly discovered the car park isn’t quite big enough after all!
Under the terms of our agreement, we’re not legally able to remain on site. We have taken legal advice and explored our options, but pursuing the matter further could quickly become very expensive. Sadly, IBMG’s pockets are considerably deeper than ours, and we simply can’t justify funding a lengthy legal battle.
So… that’s the bad news.
Now for the good part.
We want to give Blightys the send-off it deserves — and remind everyone just how many people this little snack wagon has brought together over the years.
So on Wednesday, we’re inviting everyone who has supported us along the way:
All the bricklayers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, roofers, scaffolders, landscapers, labourers, delivery drivers, lorry drivers, cabbies, mechanics, and every other tradesperson imaginable.
The staff from SPS, Independent Roofing, Phase Electrical, Screwfix, Steer, Yeomans, BJL, Phillimores, Peter Johnson’s, Trade Paints, the Beeching Centre, local artists and designers, along with NHS staff, firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and all the other local businesses who have supported us over the years.
Somewhere along the line, Blightys also became an unofficial counselling service, business consultancy, relationship advice centre, and world affairs discussion panel.
Over the years we’ve listened to problems about bosses, employees, wives, husbands, ex-wives, ex-husbands, dodgy builders, useless apprentices, football results, politics, fuel prices and lot of the strange going ons in Bexhill 😉
We’ve solved absolutely none of the world’s problems… but we’d like to think we made a few mornings a little more bearable with a bacon roll and a cup of tea.
To all the mums, dads, and children who stopped by for breakfast or lunch.
Not forgetting the dog owners whose dogs can’t pass without grabbing a free sausage!
And finally, a special mention to Mr & Mrs Parker — the herring gulls who have nested on the Parker roofs for as long as we’ve been here. We sincerely hope they continue their proud tradition of decorating the cars in the car park long after we’ve gone.
We’ll be open from 10am onwards.
The menu will be breakfast items only and, as a thank you for all your support over the years, all food will be completely free.
There will also be free beer!
We genuinely hope as many of you as possible can come down and give Blightys the send-off it deserves.
If you’re planning to come, please comment on the post so we can get an idea of numbers to cater for.
It has been an absolute pleasure serving you all over the last 13 years, and we honestly couldn’t have done it without your support.
We are going to miss you all enormously.
Wishing you all the very best.
Mark, Emma and Daisy
