We welcome all walks of life at Northern Soul Kitchen whether you are passionate about the environment or you need somewhere that will give you a warm welcome and a wholesome lunch without serving you with a bill afterwards. Using unsold foods we create a full menu of options for all - we believe that good food shouldn't go to waste so we save it from a landfill fate and bring delicious dishes to the community from our café space in Berwick.

We knew we wouldn't be able to keep up on the high street with *only* surplus food as truthfully - we just don't have enough of it these days to stock a super busy café!

So we are trialling some house prepared baguettes where the bread may have been surplus but we have purchased local ingredients for the fillings - we hope you like them 😊

Today we have;

- bacon, chilli jam & rocket
- toasted cheese & kimchi
- chilli houmous with rainbow veggies *vegan*

🎉 National Volunteers Week 🎉

Our volunteers are the backbone of the organisation - truly. Without our volunteers, we would have never had the people power to start, let alone be here 10 years later!

Firstly, our collections, this team collects heavy surplus food donations, sorts it, weighs it, and stores it. In fact, our pick-up team includes 2 of our longest standing volunteers who deserve a big mention - Jason & Caroline - you've been with us since the beginning! HUGE thanks and gratitude for such hard work and loyalty to the cause.

David who not only collects grub every single Wednesday but makes sure the returnable cardboard is sent back to Lidl and all crates are redistributed to the correct supermarkets - which is sometimes a really big job & a physically demanding one too! A big thanks also for Graham for joining the Wednesday crew 🙌

Newbies Phil, Madeleine & Claire, also for the pick ups, super grateful to you folks for getting stuck in and sticking with us during our transitional time in the new space. Plus, we cannot forget team Mum & Dad here, always ready to step in and collect when needed 💚

As for servers, coffee makers, and front of housers we have had so many, and we genuinely love you all! To all the amazing Duke of Edinburgh young'uns that have learned with us, grown in confidence and skills - it is amazing to see, and we are so grateful that you chose us for your DofE journey.

Big love to our Friday crew, Ann & Cathy, both long-standing volunteers who have consistently shown up for us for years & years each week providing us with reliability, laughs and support. Fridays would be boring with you pair!

Happy National Volunteers Week to all of our selfless, helpful, and incredible volunteers. It takes a special type of person to give up time and to get involved in something, especially during our move and upheaval. Thank you so much Soul Kitchen Crew - you are awesome.

We are super excited to be announcing our first coffee event here on Marygate!

Join us and for a journey through Columbian coffee. A word from Arran from Northside;

"At Northside Coffee, we work with various exporters and farms in Colombia, and we’d like to share some of the things we've learnt with you.

The aim of this cupping is to give you an understanding of the various grades of coffee that are available from the country. From commercial to competition. You’ll get to understand what drives the market and will be able to try some advanced processing methods, as Colombia has helped lead innovation here for the last ten years.

We look forward to seeing you."

Arrive for 10am and spend the morning tasting and learning with Arran, nibbles by us provided and included too!

£25pp // spaces are limited so please be quick to book to avoid disappointment - book via email [email protected]

Morning everyone!

We are crying out for more folks to come along to the Pop Up Share Shop at 103 Marygate - lots of surplus that needs to be saved including fruit & veg and loads of bakery which smells amazing.

We have noticed a huge drop of Share Shop visitors here on Marygate and we understand that now it is inside rather than outside folks are put off but we cannot put this food out here as the gulls will definitely notice and steal it for themselves!

So please do pop in and fill a bag, donate if you can but no worries if you can't

Open today from 9:30am
