Did You Know?
Makeney Hall has a remarkable history that dates back to 1818, when Anthony Radford Strutt built the house as his family home. The Strutt family were among the most influential industrialists of the 18th and 19th centuries, helping to transform Derbyshire through innovation in the cotton industry.
Working alongside inventor Richard Arkwright, the Strutts played a key role in the success of the mills at Belper and Milford, creating jobs, building homes, schools and churches, and helping to shape the communities that still thrive today. Their work contributed to the creation of the Derwent Valley Mills, now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For generations, Makeney Hall remained at the heart of the Strutt family's story before beginning a new chapter as the welcoming country house hotel you can enjoy today. As you explore the hotel and its beautiful grounds, you're walking through more than 200 years of Derbyshire history 🏰✨
Whether you're planning a dream wedding, a special celebration, a business event or a relaxing getaway, Makeney Hall offers the perfect setting with excellent transport links and unforgettable surroundings.
We look forward to welcoming you. ✨
