☘️ 45th Anniversary Post! ☘️
Today we remember with pride,
Our esteemed founding member,
And held the committee position of assistant treasurer
Cllr Larry Kennedy - (Also Known As The Brain.)
Brutally murdered in the club,
October 8th 1981,
By loyalist UFF gunmen
While standing chatting to
Micky Lagan,
Who survived but sadly passed away some years ago - RiP
It is claimed by many present that only for Larry & Micky,
They inadvertently saved many punters from mass murder.
Note: Larry was one of 3 Republicans,
Elected to BCC
During the 1981 Hunger Strike
along with two IRSP Cllrs,
Gerry Kelly & Seany Flynn,
Then BCC was 100% Unionist Dominated Council & A place few dared to venture only for people like Larry who were determined to make change.
During this period members of the Anti H-Blocks & Armagh,
Where being deliberately targeted for assassination
Murdering several high profile figures including,
Miriam Daly, Ronnie Bunting,
Noel Little & John Turnley.
and seriously wounding others notably Bernadette Devlin/McAliskey & her husband.
Murder gangs directly involved in collusion with the full assistance of the British Government.
We @ the ☘️ Have campaigned for years now on behalf of former members and friends who rightly believed that Larry should be remembered by BCC for his contribution and the tireless work he did for our community,
Especially the young and elderly
people with disabilities &
many, many local charities including,
Cancer Lifeline & The Gateway Project etc, etc,
So we take this opportunity to thank both independent Cllrs, Paul McCusker and Paul Doherty,
Who have held the position of former deputy lord mayor's,
For their steadfast assistance in organising the positive meeting with sitting lord mayor,
Rósi Máire Donnelly,
Cllrs Beattie and Murphy,
With our chairman,
Jim McAlinden & Secretary,
Paul Carson,
Who put our position & requests across to them last Thursday,
Before the monthly council meeting.
Our case was acknowledged & We received a commitment to address our request & We thanked them for accommodating us in the mayor's chamber.
