Four decades in the kitchen: meet Keri Sittlington!

This International Chefs Day, we’re celebrating Keri, Head Chef at Academy Restaurant, Ulster University Business School, whose passion for food and hospitality has spanned more than 40 years.

From some of Northern Ireland’s best-known kitchens to a year cooking in Australia, Keri has built a wealth of experience that she now shares with the next generation of culinary talent.

Her recipe for success? A love of local, seasonal produce, a commitment to excellence and a passion for helping students grow in confidence and skill.

For Keri, the greatest reward is seeing students progress from their first steps in the kitchen to confidently contributing during a busy service.

Her advice to aspiring chefs? “Remain curious, embrace every opportunity to gain experience and never stop developing your skills.”

Today, we celebrate Keri and all the chefs whose creativity, dedication and mentorship bring people together through food.

Discover Keri’s story and find out what makes Academy Restaurant special.

This time last week, we were proud to showcase the very best of hospitality education and industry collaboration at the Academy Restaurant.

As part of UTV's Just the Job programme, presenter Emma Patterson stepped into the shoes of final-year Culinary Arts Management student Jodie, gaining first-hand experience of life behind the scenes during a busy evening of service.

The filming took place while the Academy was also hosting the Jawbox Gin 10th Anniversary Dinner, creating a fantastic opportunity to highlight the professionalism, talent and dedication of our students as they delivered a high-profile event for one of Northern Ireland's best-known brands.

It was a pleasure to welcome both UTV and Jawbox to the Academy and to showcase the outstanding work of our students and staff.
