Outreach Update ~ Monday 31st August 2026

A lovely evening in the city centre, with lots of bank holiday revellers, and CMAT concert goers all enjoying the great atmosphere in town.

On the other side of the coin, we arrived to a large number of people waiting not so patiently for us to set up and get the food service started. With so many people in the queue there was the inevitable pushing and shoving, some folks panicking they’d miss out on their chance of a hot meal. Thankfully we had enough to go round them, and by 7.30 every single pick of food and hot drinks had been distributed.

We saw quite a few new faces among our regulars tonight, many of them under the influence but in the best of form. Each and every one of them has a story to tell about how they’ve arrived at this place in their lives, and for us it’s often a privilege to be able to listen to them without judgement, and afford them the dignity they deserve.

There were only compliments about tonight’s menu with the following on offer: sausage suppers from the amazing team at Fish City; honey chilli chicken with chips from Paula; and pasta Bolognese or spicy sausage pasta from Julie. Tonight’s sandwiches were provided by Stewart, Natasha, and Julie’s parents and aunt, all added to the snackpacks with fruit, yogurt drinks, and chocolate desserts. Lemon Drizzle cake and chocolate cake went down a treat at the tea table too!

Grainne and the amazing team at Fish City, who once again provided us with a fab donation this evening. We really appreciate all their continued support and generosity.

Raymond, Peggy, and Josie, who work away in the background making up snackpacks for all our teams, as well as sandwiches for our Monday table.

Ruth and Terry for dropping off another fab donation of foodbank supplies and fruit for tonight’s table. They never miss a weekly donation to ourselves, such generous souls.

Ethna and Brendan Kelleher for a fantastic donation of apples from their apple tree. We helped pick them for the table and they were really well received.

Finally our Monday team out tonight ~ low in numbers but big in compassion, dedication, and smiles. Thank you to our Monday squad Paula, Stewart, and Julie, and shout out to Natasha who very kindly helped us out.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing our former colleague Carson Tate. We remember him with great fondness and gratitude for the time and friendship he shared with us ❤️ Our heartfelt condolences go out to Carson's family and loved ones.
