The Morning Star

The Morning Star Award Winning Pub & Restaurant Est.1810
In House Butcher & Kitchen Garden Another great rarity is the Winged Lion of St Mark sitting proudly on the corner.

Located in a romantic old entry running between Ann Street and High Street, the Morning Star is easily identified by the superb Victorian sign handing from a grandly exuberant iron bracket jutting out from the corner of the bar, it’s one of the finest examples of its type to be found anywhere in Ireland. Our building is historically listed and can trace its history back to 1810 when it was mention

ed in the Belfast Newsletter as being one of the terminals for the Belfast to Dublin Mail Coach. The downstairs bar has its original mahogany counter with its old terrazzo floor. The Morning Star is a must for anyone anxious to see “a living museum piece of old Belfast”. We offer ‘real food’, prepared and served by professional staff. The menu enclosed is a small representation of what we offer from our kitchen daily. We prepare our meals from produce sourced locally using the best of our supplier and growers. We specialise in fresh local produce, fresh fish and seasonal vegetables. Our beef and steaks are all from Quality Assured stock. We cook only in butter, olive oil or low cholesterol vegetable oil and use only free range eggs. We are included in the following publications; Taste of Ulster Guide, Bridgestone Ireland Good Food, Let’s Go Britain/Ireland, Georgina Campbell’s Pubs of Ireland, Best 100 Pubs in Ireland, The Rough Guides, Winner of British Airways Tourism Award, Chairman’s Award Best Pub Food, Shortlisted for the All Ireland Seafood Pub

Our story is built on more than great food. It’s a story of generations of farmers, and producers, with a shared belief in quality, hospitality and knowing where things begin.

That connection to the land continues today. Our farming heritage informs the way we source and serve our produce, while our in-house butcher allows us to bring that same care and craft right through to the kitchen.

From farm to butcher, kitchen to table, it’s a tradition of provenance that has been passed down through generations.
And perhaps that’s why good food and good hospitality feel so much at home here.

Generations of heritage. One Morning Star. 🌿🥩🥃

To our team at Pottingers and The Morning Star, our incredible customers, and the endless crowd of friends, old and new—thank you! 🍻

What an unforgettable time at the Fleadh!

To our amazing team across both venues: your energy, hard work, and endless smiles under total pressure were nothing short of legendary.

You kept the pints flowing, the food piping hot, and the welcome warm from the first tune to the final call. We couldn’t be prouder of how you pulled together to make this week happen. 👏🏼

To our customers, local regulars, and visitors who traveled from near and far: thank you for bringing the atmosphere, the laughter, and music and the spirit that makes the Fleadh so special. You filled the rooms and the entryway with brilliant craic and incredible energy. 🎻
