NEW MENU THIS WEEKEND.

Few changes happening. Some new bits, some favourites staying put and another vegan option added in too.

One of the new ones — The Hometown Bap.

Sausage patty, smashed smiles, dirty cheese, fried egg, smoked chilli mayo & HT sauce.

We planned a nice wee autumn menu change.

It’s 22 degrees outside.

Good timing as usual.

PUMPKIN SPICED “STOUT” 🎃

Spooky season has made its way onto the drinks board.l replacing the “Guinness”.

Ethiopian cold brew with notes of brown sugar & nuts, house-made pumpkin spice syrup, pumpkin spiced cold foam & cinnamon sugar.

Beaut autumn flavours. This one’s a belter.

Meet Mick Mick Hinds

Although if you’ve spent more than ten minutes in Hometown, you’ve probably already met him. Or heard us arguing.

Mick and I knew each other before Hometown and briefly worked together. I loved his style of service straight away. First class at his job, but with a playful edge that you can’t really teach.

When Hometown was coming together, he was one of the people I wanted to open the doors with us.

Anyone who’s been served by the two of us will have witnessed the bickering, insults and general abuse we throw at each other. He’s also been known to give the odd customer a bit of it too. Usually deserved.

But underneath all that, Mick is seriously good at what he does. He knows hospitality, remembers people, looks after them and makes service feel like it should — fun.

That’s a big part of what we want Hometown to be.

Class grub. Class coffee. Class service.

With a small amount of verbal abuse thrown in.

Keeping Saturday mornings old school.

I always remember Saturday mornings as a kid with bacon in the pan and butties getting made before heading out to football.

Funny how certain food just takes you somewhere. A bacon butty is definitely one of those.

Ours is thick white, plenty of bacon, maple bacon butter, frazzles & HT sauce.

Nothing clever. Just our take on something most of us already have a memory attached to. Everyone’s bacon butty seems to come with a story.

Summer’s had its go.

So the porridge has had its seasonal changeover.

Blackberry, pecan & maple.

Some new coffee for the shelves.

We’ve got two beautiful coffees in from our friends over at Lucid Coffee Roasters, roasted just up the road here in Belfast.

A Colombian Popayán Reserve for espresso — washed, balanced and sweet with mandarin, caramel & vanilla.

And a Brazilian Mundo Novo for filter — this one’s had a 72hr yeast fermentation, giving it loads of sweetness and a creamy, fruity cup. Think plum, papaya & custard.

Two very different coffees. Both class.

We’ve a few banging sides on the menu,

Halloumi nugz.

We tear our halloumi into rough chunks and fry it till you get all those crispy, salty edges. Then hit it a lemon, pepper & paprika & honey.

Sweet, salty, sticky. A fan fav

6 months of Hometown.

Feels like we opened about three weeks ago and about four years ago at the same time.

We opened Hometown wanting to make a cafe that felt like us. Good food, proper coffee, good people and somewhere you’d actually want to spend a bit of time.

Six months in and this wee place has become more than we probably thought it would this quickly. Regular faces, new faces, dogs under tables, queues out the door, seven days a week and even the odd night with the lights down and the candles out.

It’s been a class summer on the Cregagh too. Doors open, sun shining and the cafe absolutely buzzing. Now we’re ready for the seasons to change a bit. Colder mornings, darker evenings and plenty of comfort food on the way.

Still loads we want to do. Still loads we want to get better at.

But for six months in, we’re pretty fu***ng proud of it.

Thanks for backing our wee cafe. ❤️

Mad few days at Hometown over the bank holiday weekend.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday we got absolutely smashed, then topped it all off last night with a class 30th birthday for Seanagh.

There’s just something beaut about our wee space at night. Lights down, candles on, tables full and plenty of craic about the place.

Thanks for keeping us flat out all weekend. As always, really appreciate the support 🤝
