For something a little different, visit Burley, the New Forest’s “witch village.”

It earned the name in the 1950s thanks to Sybil Leek, a self-styled white witch who strolled the streets in a black cloak with her pet jackdaw, Hotfoot Jackson.

Beyond the folklore, Burley is a perfect base for peaceful forest walks, with heathland paths, quiet woodland and ponies roaming freely.

The evenings are drawing in, and November is the perfect time to slip away to the New Forest.

Golden woodland walks, a book by the fire, breakfast in bed and pannage pigs snuffling for acorns. No crowds, no rush, just a slower pace at The Montagu Arms.

Yesterday, some of our lovely team took part in the to help raise money for this fantastic charity.

We walked 10K along the Lymington sea wall, and were joined by some extra (and very cute!) additions along the way.

Hospitality is a industry built on caring for others, but sometimes the people behind the scenes need care too. Hospitality Action is there for anyone who works, or has worked, in hospitality, offering practical, emotional and financial support through life’s hardest moments, from illness and bereavement to financial crisis. No one in our industry should ever have to face those times alone.

Half term plans, sorted.

The Montagu Arms in Beaulieu puts the whole New Forest on your doorstep, and there’s plenty to keep the family busy once you’re here.

Start the day with pancakes at breakfast, then let the little ones loose in the garden to hunt for fairy doors, explore the teepee and settle in with some colouring and dressing up.

Our free Halloween trail runs all through half term too, so there’s always something to find.

Between the autumn walks and the family days out, you’ll be glad to have somewhere cosy waiting at the end of it.

And all kids stay free when sharing their parents’ room.
