Our chef specialises in sourcing fresh and local produce from the boat, farm and allotment. From local ales and art to breakfast bags and hampers, our customers can relax in the knowledge that they can enjoy the relics and ruins from the past in a place of comfort and charm. Served between 12 and 5pm. Our attentive and talented bar members can sing/strum a tune or two whilst enjoying the English Summer in glass; choosing from our uncomplicated menu of old school cocktails. With an array of music and art events, all family members are welcome including our faithful old friends, dogs. We are proud to house the largest wild garden in Battle, bordering the 1066 walk. You may have seen that celebrity chef Tom Kerridge is leading a campaign calling on the Government to reduce VAT for hospitality businesses from 20% to 10%. The campaign aims to support an industry that is facing unprecedented financial pressures.

For businesses like ours, VAT is one of the biggest challenges we face. While we pay 20% VAT on every sale, only a small portion of our costs can be offset against it. Combined with rising wages, energy bills, food costs and other operating expenses, many hospitality businesses are being left with extremely tight margins.

This isn’t about making bigger profits. It’s about protecting local jobs, supporting independent businesses, and ensuring that takeaways, pubs, cafés and restaurants can continue serving the communities that rely on them.
