A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of celebrating my Uncle Dennis Antony's 70th birthday. My cousin summed it up on the day of how amazing and supportive this man has been to our whole family. He's not been an amazing uncle to all of us but a great brother to his three sisters, and he was there diligently for his mum her whole life. I attribute my love of music down to him and my mum, and particularly my love of reggae music and the connection and identity it gave to our Jamaican roots. It meant so much to me growing up in a time when our culture wasn't widely understood.
To see how much reggae has blown up in the five decades of my life is really inspiring, and I love sharing this culture, and thus Dr. Mantis was born. Of course, music had to be part of the party, and it was a real privilege to go back-to-back with Styles B. Sharp.
I remember hearing Lovestar tapes back when I was 14. Anyway, we had such a good time, we're going to do it again. So on Saturday, June 20th, we're going to be celebrating not only Solstice but Windrush Day at The Nowhere Tavern. Come join us. Those of you who know me well will know this is the building that I first started DJing in many moons ago.
Stylie is also going to be doing a set at Beats Beyond Borders next Sunday at Avon Rugby Club. He's on outside the clubhouse at 4pm
