Dinner at The Olive Tree is not so much a meal as a gentle unfolding.

Choose our à la carte menu, enjoy a beautifully composed five-course Carte 5, or settle in for the full Carte 7 tasting menu — Chris Cleghorn’s Taste of the Season in its most generous form.

Classic flavours, modern technique, local ingredients and the occasional delicious surprise. All served in our small, perfectly formed dining room beneath The Queensberry Hotel.

The only difficult part is deciding how far you’d like the evening to go.

Some pairings are designed to soothe. Others sharpen the edges rather beautifully.

This season, we are pouring BEAU VIVA 0.0% Sparkling Rosé with our Heritage Carrot dish — a non-alcoholic pairing from Provence with delicate red fruit, soft florals and a crisp, refreshing finish.

Light, bright and just celebratory enough. Then, with our 75% Islands Chocolate Fig Leaf Ice Cream, Manni Olive Oil, Acetaia Bonini 50-Year-Old Balsamic and Cumin, comes something deeper: Grappa Marolo Barolo Chinato.

Supplied by Amathus Drinks this traditional aromatised wine from Piedmont brings warming spice, bitter dark chocolate notes and a gentle herbaceous sweetness. Its structure and bitterness contrast beautifully with the chocolate, while the sweetness brings everything neatly into balance.

One without alcohol. One with all the richness of Piedmont. Both chosen with the same care.

Because at The Olive Tree, what is in the glass is never an afterthought.

This month, we’re saying hello to Jake Nicholls, our Head Chef.

Jake’s story is one of those rather brilliant hospitality tales that starts with pot wash and ends — though we suspect he would say it hasn’t ended at all — with leading the kitchen of a Michelin Star restaurant.

He began as a kitchen porter at 14, became an apprentice chef here at The Olive Tree at 17, and in 2022, at just 23, became Head Chef. Which is no small thing. In fact, it is a very large thing, achieved in a very small and perfectly formed kitchen.

Mentored by Executive Head Chef Chris Cleghorn, Jake has learnt every corner of how the kitchen works — from the finest details on the plate to the many moving parts behind the scenes.

A quiet force, a serious talent, and a very important part of The Olive Tree story.

Lunch at The Olive Tree has always had a rather persuasive way of turning “just popping out” into something far more memorable.

Available Friday to Sunday, our lunch-only à la carte menu is £80 and includes our ‘To Start’, bread and ‘To Finish’ - because even lunch deserves a little ceremony.

Beautifully seasonal, quietly indulgent, and just the thing for those who like their afternoons with a Michelin-starred edge.

In praise of the not-so-humble carrot!

This dish – Carrot, Cornish Kern, Salted Lemon – gets the very best from the seasonal crop’s depth and their natural sweetness, which we bring out with slow cooking, pair with the rich nuttiness of Cornish Kern cheese and lift with the zing of salted lemon. Simple, seasonal, beautifully balanced.
