CHRISTMAS
And a year on from our bakery sadly having to close 🥲
All of the team are well all having secured awesome jobs.
I have been working at who have given me the opportunity to brush with some of the very best bakers up and down the country in my sales and bakery support role for which I am really grateful.
Also very inspired to see lots of new bakeries starting up so thought I'd compile some tips for bakeries heading into the festive season.
Products: create a point of difference as often you cannot compete with the large convenience brands on price. So think out of the box, and seek pedigree through your local suppliers such as the we fed our Christmas Puddings with.
Pricing: this time of year sees all us bakers stretched for time. Taking up huge amounts of time to produce festive treats takes you away from your mainstay production. Don't burn yourself out and then undercut yourself. Be confident in the quality of products you are making and the love and care that goes into it and price your products accordingly.
Pre-orders: do it via a form on your website or a paper form in the bakery. No baker wants to be left with unsold goods when you close the doors on Christmas Eve, nor do you want to be oversold. So get those pre-order forms done and help manage your production.
Gimmicks: gimmicks sell and generally fetch a premium. Photographed are our Belgian Hot Chocolate Baubles which we could not make enough of. A plastic bauble filled with our signature hot chocolate mix. Perfect hamper item. Don't be scared to step out and do something a little different to get yourselves noticed.
Shelf life: for those that dabble in production of preserves, go big with these as they have a 12month shelf life. Perfect foodie stocking fillers, and a great way to fill any latent time in production having something on the simmer.
Gift vouchers: simple to do, and puts cash in the bank for dreaded January. Consider bakery workshops, events, talks, tastings or bread/pastry subscriptions.
I'd love to help with any bakeries so please don't hesitate to reach out.
Merry Christmas all. We miss you.x
