Happy Retirement Paddy! The end of an era for The Glencloy Inn 💎
After 43 wonderful years, the chapter has come to a close for the Diamond family at The Glencloy Inn, as Paddy officially retires.
Forty-three years ago, Jim and Peggy Diamond took over The Glencloy Inn from the Black family, beginning a new chapter in its long history. Paddy was there from the very beginning, working alongside his parents before taking over the family business after they passed away. Through hard work, determination and the support of family, staff and customers, he carried the business from strength to strength.
Anyone who knows Paddy knows that The Glencloy wasn't just his business – it was his life. He worked tirelessly, held himself and everyone around him to the highest standards and ran what many affectionately called a "tight ship." He certainly had his moments (and plenty of people will have stories to tell!), but putting that aside it’s fair to say that beneath the no-nonsense exterior was someone who genuinely cared about his staff, his customers and the community.
Paddy sincerely thanks the many incredible staff, both past and present, who worked alongside him over the years, the local community, loyal customers, and the many friends made along the way.
A heartfelt thank you goes to every member of staff who showed such loyalty over the years and rolled up their sleeves on the tough days, worked into the wee hours, deck-scrubbed the floors (if you know, you know!), and provided plenty of craic along the way. You were so much more than staff, you became part of The Glencloy family. Paddy is delighted to share that all current staff will remain in post.
A special mention must go to Archie, better known to many as "Skin", for his remarkable 27 years of service – a loyal and popular barman whose dedication, friendship and hard work played such a huge part in The Glencloy story.
"The Glencloy, Inn Where Friends Meet" has always been more than just a slogan. It has been a welcoming place for company when someone felt alone, a place for a yarn, a laugh, good company, and a place where countless family celebrations and lifelong memories have been made.
Paddy leaves with a full heart and immense gratitude for everyone who has been part of the journey. Looking back over four decades, there is so much to be grateful for- the friendships made, the challenges overcome and the countless memories shared. More than anything, he'll miss the craic, the banter and the familiar faces that made every day enjoyable.
While stepping away from behind the bar will undoubtedly be a huge adjustment, Paddy now has something even more special to look forward to. He's recently taken on his new role as Granda to Daragh Diamond . So after 43 years of long days, late nights, rare days off and endless dedication, he finally has the time to enjoy this next chapter with his family. It's safe to say he has plenty of lost time to make up for!
As one chapter ends, another begins. We wish the McLaughlin family every success and happiness in their future at The Glencloy Inn. We encourage everyone to continue supporting them and to enjoy many more nights, celebrations and memories within its walls.
Thank you all for 43 unforgettable years. ❤️
