Tomorrow is Kaela’s last shift at Café Roo and honestly, we still can’t quite believe we’re writing this.
Kaela has been with us from the very beginning. When we opened Café Roo, we were learning how to run a business as we went along and she was right there through every single part of it. Over the last two years as supervisor, she has gone so far beyond her job title it’s impossible to put into words.
She’s been a plumber when the sinks blocked, an electrician when plugs needed fixed, a cleaner, a builder, a gardener and absolutely everything in between. No matter what needed done, Kaela just got stuck in without ever complaining.
When we first met Kaela, she was only 16 years old and watching her grow over the years has been so special for us. She stopped being “just an employee” a long time ago — she became family and is such a huge part of Café Roo.
At the beginning of this year, when Cole was in hospital and I had to step away from the business to care for her, Kaela stepped up and ran the whole café at just 18 years old. Quite simply, we could not have done it without her.
Wherever she goes next, they are incredibly lucky to have her. She has been absolutely fantastic and she will be massively missed by all of us and by so many of our customers too.
Kaela heads off to America next Saturday for Camp America and we’re so excited for her new adventure — even if we’re heartbroken to see her go.
If you’re around tomorrow, please pop into Café Roo to say goodbye and wish her luck on her travels. We know she’d love to see some familiar faces before she heads off.
Thank you for everything, Kaela. We love you and we’re unbelievably proud of you ❤️
