Andy “Wee Budgie” Rodmant.
Our wee pal, will be laid to rest at Daldowie Crematorium on Wednesday 17th June at 3pm.
“Wee” in stature, Budgie was a huge part of Loggie history and company.
Baillieston born and bred he only had one local.
If you were a regular in the Loggie, you knew Budgie. But you also knew not to call him that in front of Mary (his late wife), who’d remind you sharply, “His name’s Andrew!!!.
His spot was at the bottom of the bar; everybody knew the Budgie seat and it was perfect for the view of Budgie telly! Over the decades, if there was live football, he was watching it; didn’t matter who played, cos he just loved the game. He’d have been in his element with Scotland in a World Cup. He’d would not have missed a second of it. Anyone who grew up with him would tell you how good a player the young Andy had been.
Pictured here with a few of the corner pals.
His seat was also the perfect for collecting the Budgie tax. Anyone who had a kid’s sponsor sheet or charity footie card would simply give it to Budgie, who would then capture anyone coming thru the door or going to the toilet “Haw you….. POUND!” (Sometime expressed in slightly fruitier language, but always with a cheeky grin). No-one ever refused and it’d be impossible to guess how much he collected over the decades.
The corner won’t be the same without you pal, but it’ll still be the “Budgie seat” beside the “Budgie telly”.
RIP
