Bolinho de Chuva (Rain/Raindrop doughnuts) are a treat that will take any Brazilian back to their childhood. ๐๐๐ง๐ทThey're prepared by our mothers/grandmothers/carers/ anyone we love in our home when we're kids...๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ง๐
They are slightly crunchy on the outside but light and pillowy inside, traditionally dusted with sugar and cinnamon.
The name refers to the raindrop shape the batter makes when it hits the oil and to the idea that it is a good rainy day/cold day project to make the dish.
The dough of the bolinho de chuva is very similar to the one used on the Portuguese "Bolas de Berlin", however these have filling and were prepared only by the "Sinhรกs" (word used by slaves to refer to theirs owners).
The Rain Doughnuts came from the resourceful hands of the slave women, and for some time they were called "bolinhos de negras" (black women's fritters). They went to the dining tables as a dessert wrapped in leaves of banana tree.
