We've had an incredible amount of responses to our latest job vacancy.
For this reason I am not able to take any more Cvs or emails.

I expected 3 or 4, not 60+. I will try and get back to everyone to arrange either an interview or tell those who have applied that we won't be proceeding to the interview stage. I won't offer feedback unless requested.

However if you would like help with a CV or covering letter or would like a mock interview please feel free to email the shop using our websites contact form.

But to every young person who did apply, genuinely I admire you, especially you first time job hunters. It's a tough thing and requires bravery.

I still remember walking round Bridport (my home town) with a stack of probably misspelt cvs handing them out to anyone that would take one. It was daunting as a teen. (Back when you could get a Saturday job at 13 😅)

My first job was at Husseys of Bridport selling bread. In a pinny and a bakers cap for £2.15 an hour. At age 13 I dropped in a CV but nearly ran away because the girl two years above me at school who I fancied was behind the counter. I was interviewed by Stephen Lawrence the head baker who turned it into punch and Judy's bakery, he asked me why I wanted the job...I think I said money.

At my first proper chefs interview Paul Groves asked me if I could cook him an omelette.omelette wasn't really done in our house and I hadn't done it at college...so I said I could learn quickly. He gave me a chance anyway and 15 years later he is still my "chef" and mentor. I still can't make a decent omelette.

First jobs are formative, terrifying and alien.

So to the youngsters of Axminster who applied, or for any who are job searching. well done, keep chancing, keep grafting and keep going.

The only bit of unsolicited advice I will give,
If you drop in a paper copy CV, put your email or number on it.

But genuinely, the willingness of Axminsters young to work is outstanding.

Sadly our current crew member who we've trained for four years has selfishly decided that a university education is more important than slinging beans 🙄.

We're kidding we are super proud of her....but we do need to replace her...

We need a Saturday hero to take on the role.

Pay is dependent on age and experience, all training will be given but experience is favourable.
Minimum Age 16+

6 hours most weeks but plenty of available extra hours during holidays.

Role includes making coffees (when trained), talking to customers (we start you on the nice ones), taking orders, general cleaning, working the till, social media, food prep....coffee shop stuff.

You should be personable, friendly, good sense of humour and cheerful.. mostly because Laurence is tired and grumpy and Beth and Katie need someone cheerful to keep them going.

Free food and drinks on shift, staff discount.

Coast path progress! Hot, humid, sticky progress.
We spent a few hours Sunday filling in a little gap on our map. Budleigh to Exmouth, this nicely finished off the whole of the Exeter Canal and estuary section.
This is a 12k easy going stretch that is supposed to take 4 hours but we polished it off with a bit of a stomp at 2 hours 35 mins.
It was a scorcher of a day and there were very few places to get supplies on the route so take plenty of water....and biscuits.

It's quite exposed so suncream or wet weather gear is a must depending on forecast.

The cliff is collapsing, with deep splits straight across the path so be aware especially around weather changes.

We heard but unfortunately didn't spot a peregrine falcon, verified by our Merlin Bird ID app which has been a great addition to our walks recently.

Places to stop 📍

Book well in advance but one of our favourite places and already on our map of food heroes is River Exe Cafe | Devon sitting in the center of the estuary and reached by water taxi.

It's provided one of our top 5 most memorable meals in the south west.

We also spotted Rascals just outside of the RNLI boat house at Exmouth, a pint would have been a fantastic reward if we had had the time!
