We are incredibly proud to share that The Town House Restaurant with Rooms has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes and 3 Silver Stars🥂

To receive 2 Rosettes and 3 Silver Stars on our first inspection — the highest level achievable on a first visit — is something we are truly delighted with and incredibly proud of.

For us, this feels like a fantastic foundation to build on. We have only just begun this journey, and there is so much more we want to achieve.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us, believed in us and joined us on this journey so far.

This is just the beginning; we can’t wait to see where we take The Town House from here 💛

✨ A fresh chapter for October…

After a wonderful few months, Matt and I took a little time last week to pause, recharge and reset.

The restaurant took a planned short closure, while behind the scenes there was plenty going on — from preparations for the months ahead to continuing to welcome guests into our rooms.

Now, as we step into October, we’re feeling refreshed, inspired and incredibly excited about what’s still to come this year.

And what better way to begin than with new dishes joining the menu this week… 🍂

There are some exciting projects taking shape behind the scenes, and we can’t wait to share more of them with you over the coming months.

New season. New dishes. Fresh energy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS FOR THE TOWN HOUSE! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Town House Restaurant with Rooms has been awarded the highest possible 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating!

Just 4 months into our journey, we faced the ultimate test when the inspector walked through our doors at 6:30 PM on a fully booked Friday evening—exactly as our first dinner guests were arriving.

What makes this milestone so incredibly special to us is that The Town House is run by just the two of us. As owners, we wear all the hats: Matthew in the kitchen as Chef, and Jennifer out front as Sommelier and Host. Just two pairs of hands balancing a high-pressure fine-dining service, a premium w**e pairing, and an unannounced, top-to-bottom health inspection all at once.

No matter the circumstances or the distractions backstage, we knew we couldn't let it affect our guests' experience for a single second. It is all part of the stage we walk—maintaining absolute composure and seamless hospitality while delivering flawless safety standards behind the scenes.

To achieve top marks under peak Friday pressure with just the two of us is a true testament to the focus and dedication we pour into our dream every single night.

While we have our sights set on more awards in the future, these five are as important as any other... 😉🌟

With Summer ingredients fading out and Autumnal produce starting to poke it's head above ground, our menu will shortly be showcasing the phenomenal produce growing around us in the South Downs National Park

Girolle, Porcini, Wood Blewitt, Scarletinas, Hedgehogs, and possibly a contender for 'shroom of the season already...

Sloes, Elderberries, Blackberries, Quince from our neighbour's garden too - our favourite time of year indeed

If not now, when? And if not us, who?

A statement we find ourselves saying quite often.

It has always been a dream of ours to open a small, independent restaurant with rooms. A place that showcases what we love about hospitality, creates something special, and brings a little bit of our personality to our hometown.

With economic uncertainty, a one-year-old, and a lot of hard graft still to come, there were plenty of reasons we could have said no.

But what if we said yes?

Yes to following your dreams, no matter what age.
Yes to taking the opportunity, even when the path ahead feels uncertain.
Yes to building something our family can be proud of.
Yes to backing ourselves.
Yes to celebrating every little win along the way.

Our last week foraging meadowsweet... Matt's been working on his next dish.

Been such a lovely few weeks collecting these fluffy marshmallow flowers, especially as it's always a little family adventure out gathering produce

The last of the picking is being dried for use later in the year, when ingredients sometimes aren't at their most abundant; a practice almost forgotten today, but very much a part of our identity at The Town House

Our junior-in-chief forager is more than excited to be part of his next mission... any guesses what it could be?

Matt's career has been a long and winding road over 19 years, but the destination has never wavered from the start - the hard work, dedication and commitment was always with the goal of having his own restaurant

"Having the canvas of our own restaurant, our home, to put my creativity down is such a privilege. It carries a weight of responsibility to deliver excellence every single plate, but it's a responsibility I carry with pride, and wouldn't want any other way"

Matt now has the creative freedom to showcase the knowledge he has gained from being in such kitchens as Gidleigh Park, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons, Lords of the Manor, Eleven Madison Park NYC and Sorrel, but is still guided by wild ingredients with nature at the forefront of his cooking

Outside of kitchen life, music means so much to Matt. His love of all things rock and alternative has found it's way into the dining room, if in a more subtle format...listen out for Radiohead or Eminem!
