The OFFICIAL page for Hocking's Dairy Cream Ices news and updates. He was joined after the war by his son, Dave Hocking (Junior).

Hocking's Dairy Cream Ices is family run business started in 1936 by Dave Hocking (Senior). Since the early years the business has grown considerably. The annual addition of new sites, vans, and flavours; has allowed us to provide even more people with the quality ice cream they deserve. Today, we are run by Dave Senior's Grandsons, Geoff and Neil, along with Great-Grandsons Andrew and Christian.

Our quality dairy cream ices are sold exclusively at vans across North Devon. We invite you to taste our flagship Vanilla from the following locations:
Bideford Quay
Westward Ho! Torrington Commons
Ilfracombe
Appledore
Instow
Sainsbury's, Barnstaple

NEW I-SEA-CREAM VAN

Today we make waves with our new ice cream van (boat) M/V Ninety Nine.

She has been commissioned especially for serving the Taw/ Torridge estuary, and possibly Lundy on flat days!

BACK FOR THE SEASON + WE ARE HIRING!

Some of you may have spotted that the vans were back out this weekend, and we bought sunshine with us. Well, on Saturday at least!

The vans will be open this week at their usual sites in Bideford, Torrington, Instow and Westward Ho! We will return to the others as the weather improves toward easter.

We are about to start our annual hiring window and have two types of job role listed on the Indeed job website. All applications must be submitted through the website by the 22nd March.

We look forward to seeing you all as the season progresses!

COMMEMORATING PHIL

It is with great sadness that we inform you all on the passing of our beloved Phil Hammond. In the few years Phil worked on the vans he quickly became a favourite among other staff and customers. This was due to his immense kindness and generosity. Prior to becoming an ice cream man, Phil served in the Royal Navy as a clearance diver. He became the most decorated clearance diver during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, after receiving a Conspicuous Gallantry Medal for his efforts in the Gulf War. He then went on to work for many other organisations as an explosive ordnance disposal expert saving many lives across the world. Although he had flirted with death for most of his life, getting shot and bitten by a cobra, sadly a battle with cancer was one he could not win. His sarcasm, whit and contribution to society will be remembered by all who knew him forever. RIP Phil

ICA SHOW 2025

Not long now until we are back on the road again!

Our Landrover is on show at the NEC in Birmingham this week for ICA show and competition.

We have also been judging some of the categories alongside Phil Kelly from Kelly's Ice Cream and many other notary ice cream professionals.

We look forward to seeing you all again in March!
