Today is World Parkinson’s Day!
Since the cafe started in October 2024 I have met some of the most incredible people living with Parkinson’s. I’ve heard their stories, I’ve learnt about their lives, their family and their struggles. We’ve laughed, we’ve vented, we’ve become a community!
Around 10 million people in the world live with Parkinson’s Disease. That number has doubled in the last 25 years. There is still no cure for Parkinson’s disease but with research and clinical trials, the hope is that one day there will be.
At our last cafe one of our community members shared his story about living with Parkinson’s. It was inspiring, emotional, and powerful! Sharing stories helps others living with this disease know that they’re not alone.
We’re all in this together, those living with Parkinson’s, their families, their friends, their carers.

🩵 How amazing is this… £7,883.00 is going to make a huge difference! Again, a huge huge thank to Anya for choosing the Parkinson’s Cafe - Andover to fundraise for. Thank you again to John Hanson School and to every single person involved with this charity event. The difference you have all made is huge!!
Also, showing youngsters what a difference fundraising to help your community makes, is such an amazing thing to do!
Hopefully many other local schools will jump on board in the future and fundraise to help their local community too!
I have already started the ball rolling with the Parkinson’s gym so watch this space as I will be posting updates. 🩵

🩵 This also happened yesterday! Kyla, who is very much like a daughter to me did a 24 hour read-a-thon/ talk-a-thon on TikTok to also raise money for a the Parkinson’s Cafe. Her GoFund me page is on over £200 so far and is also still rising! To sit there on a live feed for 24 hours talking is something I could never do… I would fall asleep lol. Luckily she had support from her husband Corrie and her sister Kelsey along the way. I am so proud of you Kyla! Well done and a massive thank you!! 🩵

I have ordered some of these to bring to the next Parkinson’s cafe. Please help yourselves to them when you’re there.

It's crucial to take Parkinson's medication on time, every time—even short delays can worsen symptoms. Yet, over half of people with Parkinson’s don’t get their medication on time in hospital.

In partnership with people with Parkinson’s and carers, we’ve created the Parkinson’s Away-From-Home Kit to help you advocate for timely medication, especially in an emergency stay. It includes medical alert cards, wristbands, checklists, and guidance.
Prepare your kit today!

🩵 From 3:05pm on Thursday to 3:05pm on Friday, the students and staff at John Hanson Community School completed an incredible 24-hour Sport-a-thon in support of The Parkinson’s Café in Andover — and what an incredible achievement it was!

They’ve done absolutely amazing. The JustGiving page has already raised over £5,000 and is still climbing. I’ll share the final total as soon as it’s confirmed.

The 24 hours was packed with a lot of sport and a lot of fun too. Kicking off with tag rugby and finishing with an assault course. Thursday evening also brought bingo and a quiz — both great fun (even if we didn’t win the quiz!).

There was even a shoutout from Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Radio which was so great!!

Every single student, teacher, PTA member and anyone else who took part in any way should be so proud. Giving up their time — and sleep — to help raise money towards opening a Parkinson’s gym is truly inspiring.

To Anya, my amazing cousin, this wouldn’t have been possible without her. Anya put everything into this fundraiser and has shown everyone what an amazing, inspiring and fantastic role model she is! She should be so proud of herself, I am so proud of her! A massive thank you Anya.

To everyone who donated… thank you! The generosity and support has been amazing.

I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone involved. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. 🩵

These classes are uniquely crafted for people with Parkinson's.
Inspired by case studies proving to slow the progress of Parkinson's through movement to music, teacher Penny Bryett studied and is still being mentored by The Mark Morris Dance Company who pioneered the syllabus for their local community back in the 1980's. They now train dance teachers worldwide and are leading experts in their field.

The aim of the class is to share the joy and benefits of dance for people with Parkinson's. Strengthening the body and mind, building confidence, and meeting others results in positive weekly classes for local Parkinson's communities and their carers.

Penny's training background and qualifications are available for view on the school website: https://www.thebryettschoolofdance.co.uk/
